Uk to Japan plug adaptors?

I need to get an adaptor that can run or recharge my laptop, mobile phone and additionally recharge shaver/toothbrush in Japan.
I understand their voltage is 110 not 240.

Can anyone recommend a suitable adaptor for both the 2 and 3 pin and would I need to buy a separate connector to change the voltage? Do you plug the appliance into the voltage connector, then into the adaptor?

I was hoping there was a reliable universal adaptor that would fit the bill?

thanks for your help. Have been googling but can only find Japan to UK ones.

I'm pretty sure Japan uses the same as North America, but I think there is a difference in hertz.

Stuff like a laptop, phone and toothbrush are probably universal voltage, so you wouldn't need any kind of voltage adapter for that. Look on their chargers for something like 110-230V 50-60Hz. If they say 230V 50Hz then they probably won't work, but these things tend to be universal voltage and work anywhere.

As for the actual adapter, as far as I know it's the same as American but I've never been to Japan so I couldn't say for sure.

thanks guys. Will try to get a universal adapter. The mobile phone (BB Bold) is the most important

If you plan to share a charger between devices, then make sure it works before you go! I assumed that any charger with a USB output would work for any USB device... Not the case, my bb bold refused to be charged by the ipad charger. So much for USB standards!

Japan is 100v, lowest in the world I think, half the country uses 60hz while the other half uses 50hz, but most chargers/adapters are universal so should deal with it fine, certainly will for the purposes you stated. The problems with lower voltage countries for travellers are generally with hairdryers and the like..

Just check it says 100-250v, 50/60hz, most will state this on them somewhere

Plenty of UK --> World pin adaptors at Heathrow shops. You're unlikely to find one of that combination in Japan.

This will do nicely:

Stayed in 3 hotels in Japan last summer. All had free internet in rooms but oddly, wired not wireless. And the network cable provided in the room was short so I was hunched up by the wall; not comfy in bed as a tourist should be. On the next trip I'll take my own longer cable. Won't need to be VERY long though, as Japanese hotel rooms are usually tiny.

Yeah, Japan uses the same plugs as the US. 2 pin 110 volt things. As others say, get a universal adaptor and you can't go wrong.

thanks guys. Not taking a usb adapter, just a plug one. I hope the hotel room has power points but their website says they can charge mobile phones at reception (no thanks)
thanks for the Boots link
