Ratings may be up but do we really know why? What specific element of the changes has led to what impact on ratings? Do people who didn't watch before really watch now because there is a new set for example?

That may be the problem, I believe that lots of people don't actually know. What a lovely woman, she's trying so hard, isn't she terrific, cup of tea and a slice of cake at hers? She's a belligerent/biggot/egotistic/ex tory/etc etc etc.
Personally I'm not too keen on her or her ilk.

Oh dont get me started on this agian I have spent far too much time on here saying exactly this

Her supporters however will tell you that you:

you have no sense of humour

you are a dance purist

the majority of england is voting for her

you say dreadful thing about a wonderful woman

and various other unsubstatiated statements like this , if you ask for proof of any of theire statements they will ignore you , roll thier eyes at you whilst admitng you were right or claim you are just simply a hater

Enjoy

My money would be on the Widders. Nothing like a bit of controversy to get the pulse racing. That's what the BBC obviously think because they are milking it. If she leaves and the figures drop that would confirm it.
Look at this forum it is full of Wids hardly anybody else gets mentioned. I'll bet the Beeb one is the same.
History repeats itself John Sergeant was the best entertainment SCD ever had. Wids isn't in that class however she has a certain charisma.

Doesn't matter what you think the public have been voting and they've decided that they would sooner see her next week than some of the plastic people. Can I repeat that THE PUBLIC HAVE DECIDED. As an aside she does not float my boat I only have eyes for Aliona the scarlet.

To me she represents everything that England isn't. I'm obviously a poor misguided fool who thinks that there are still 'decent/English' people on the planet. The more I look around, the more I'm prolly wrong.

Of course you're wrong . Everyone in the UK is divided into two factions - Widdelovers and humourlessunpleasantdrunkenbitchydancepurists. Except me. I'm a living, breathing oxymoron. Which makes me think I was cast as Lynda Bellingham's daughter in the stock cube ads.

Er I never used the word ALL but more of them wanted Wids than the bottom two.
From all accounts she's never been all the way and I don't think that's going to change

Most of the decent people are too broke to go out on Saturday now so they watch the box.

now if you just glance to the left you will note that I am somewhat of a pedant and maintain that when the phrase the public has ______ it is taken to mean all of the public

when one doesn't mean this it is more accurate to say some of the pulic---- or most of the public ______

the public is a concept which is taken to mean all of the population .

it really is not nice to be elitist and exclude anyone fom being part of the public community

Blimey *ahem*, but I pray that you're right.
I actually record these Saturday 'events' (for wifey of course). If the !"£$%£" elephant wins, not any more.

Quoting - From all accounts she's never been all the way

Note the "some of the plastic people" that infers that others may have higher votes. If you want precision then a fraction of the watching public who are stupid enough to vote would be more accurate. You must have heard the expression in the "public interest" you can guarantee it does not refer to the great unwashed just protection of the greasers at the top.

If one elephant is a wonder, would 14 elephants next year be appreciated.

Definitely, BBC will have screwed-up and I'll watch another channel.
Unless they change the title to "taking the p***".

The ratings increase could also be due to the fact that this year SCD hasn't gone up against the x factor

Some of the increase may be due to the widdenator but |I would have thought not going up against the x factor has to have had a significant impact as well

How are Merlin's ratings doing this year, compared to last?

absolutely no idea as I never watch it - SCD is about the only thing I watch on BBC1

Someone's bound to go off and do some research and tell us

I hope so. I tend to agree that not going against the X-Factor has probably been the most beneficial factor in the rise of SCD ratings. But it would be interesting to see if they have retained some of those numbers for the rest of the evening's entertainment, or whether Merlin is the sacrificial lamb.

A firm BBC watcher for Saturdays myself. Cant stand the Y-Factor. Would be interesting to note how the viewing figures change throughout the show. Are some just switching on the TV ready for Merlin 10 minutes early?

On ITT last night, Darren Bennett, and another guy from behind the scenes, were talking about SCD worldwide, and 'the formula'.

They were saying how they had found 'the John Sergeant' in some other country. And in every series of DWTS there is always a stooge candidate.

Having a hippopotamus, or equivalent, is an essential part of the formula.
