Have we found an Elton song for Matt yet?

I did wonder about that Elton article recently. It emphasised the need to play from a young age small gigs and gain experience. Wondered if it sought to emphasize/highlight Mr Matt Carle's experience and the important of?

calm down ..we know what Matt can do ...it's week 5 gone and he had a stumble on week 4 (at least he thinks he did) ...I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that no-ones out to get him and he's in safe hands with dannii and brian and his singing coach.....patience...

I am thinking along those lines too I even think that SC talking about Rebecca and not Matt is almost another clue too.

I agree that he has do very well so far, but we are discussing what he needs to do to progress through the competition. He can't just do the same thing over and over again, it won't go down well with the public, and possibly the judges.

It was just an article about Elton blowing off about XF people wanting to be stars overnight. He emphasized how he got where he was. It just made me think that Matt has had a similar journey really.

Then we get Elton week. I wonder if Elton is playing part of the game?

I think from the production team's point of view it might be a bit early ..I think he should enjoy himself and do some of his own stuff (not writing) ....Saturday Night ..really appeals to me ..and I'm sure he'd enjoy doing it and it;s not nearly as demanding to sing that sort of stuff

I don't like to speculate here cara ...he's a nervous boy ..is all I know and it's taken heaps of courage to get this far

I think one of the major issues with Matt is his confidence moving about the stage. They may have tried this and it didn't work in the first few weeks. May be Ali can confirm whether he has had any experience at all.

Dancing has to be definitely out. He is not that sort of act, but he could move around. Say like Joe did on Queen week. Using the full stage moving toward sections of the audience. You can stop when major notes have to be sung.

I would also like Matt to do a real uptempo song almost fronting a band.

We know he can move as we have seen in the Group productions. Its going to be interesting.

I would quite like him to do I'm still standing in terms of the fact that it is uptempo and he could move around the stage but I am pretty sure that's going to be given to Katie.

They are all miming on the group stuff. I wouldn't want Matt to be known for that.

Matt's strength is relating with the audience. That is why so many people are gobsmacked with his performances.

Im hoping Saturday Night too - if the Wands aren't given it

Just looked at his bootcamp vid and it struck me how young he looks in it and its just a few months ago! He must be absolutely bloody knackered.

I would bet my shed that Saturday Night's alright for Fighting will be given to the wands.

I was listening to Philadelphia Freedom and the Bitch is Back, and think both would be great but TBIB has the line "I get high every evening sniffing pots of glue" - that would give the MF something to chew over.

of the slower ones, my favourite is The One or Someone Saved My Life Tonight but after last week I hope it isn't a slow one.

So my conclusion is "I guess thats why they call it the Blues". Kind of mid tempo, could put a real roar on it and use the lower register.

Ah Well" What I think I may know is that Matt is going to be last to choose a song here ..because all the rest will be struggling to a greater or lesser degree ...I suspect the wee boys know little if anything about his music ...which might be interesting! and I think rebecca's got maybe two or three

We’re almost at the halfway stage of the ITV talent contest and the painter and decorator still leads the way but Rebecca Ferguson is steaming…

There are nine acts left in the X Factor and one singer has been the favourite to win this year's show ever since he turned up at the audition and said "Hi, my name's Matt Cardle".

Matt Cardle (2.62 Winner market; 1.18 Top 3 market)

Matt is a fantastic singer no doubt and he fully deserves to be favourite to win this year's contest. Even my 'degree-in-music, league two football-loving' friend thinks he will win so that's good enough for me. The one question I will pose to you all though is, has he played his trump card too early? His rendition of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was spine-tingling admittedly, but that's the song that got the judges' attention at Bootcamp and I would have thought he'd have saved it for later in the show. His propensity for high-pitched songs might catch him out as the competition progresses, but somehow I doubt it as he is in such a strong position now, one below-par week won't be too detrimental to his chances of winning.
