Vinegar on bacon??!!
Is it normal to put malt vinegar on bacon??
I stayed at my parents' house for the first time in ages the other week and my mum cooked a fry up for us. It took me a bit by surprise to see them put vinegar on their bacon, but then I remembered whenever we had bacon as children we were offered vinegar on it. Is this normal, or is this a strange thing my parents have invented??! |

Never done it and I don't know anybody that does it. Having said that I will try it now to see what the taste difference is.

I have probably done it accidentally with a fry up when sprinkling vinegar over the chips.

I haven't tried vinegar, but lemon juice on bacon is lovely.

I know that in rhe states they have a vinegar marinade for pulled pork and that is delicious so I don't imagine it's much different to that, nothing wrong about it.

Given the saltiness of bacon, I'd imagine that vinegar would probably work as an accompaniment. Maple syrup is fantastic on it, too. I know this sounds nuts, but trust me when I say that a peanut butter and bacon sandwich is a thing of beauty. It's a great flavour combination that sounds revolting. There was a diner that I used to go to in Bermuda that made them.

It may work better with the US type streaky maple cured bacon fried to a crisp but not with standard back bacon. |

I didn't think much of the combo when I tried it, or with banana.

Vinegar shoal compliment bacon well, brown sauce has a similar vinegary taste.

I went off bacon a few years back so rarely have it now. May have the occasional rasher if the OH makes a fry up.
In a bacon sarnie vinegar was always a must for me though along with ketchup, a tiny bit of brown sauce and black pepper! |

Yes, a splash of vinegar never did it any harm. And ketchup as well.......
