Help please re digisender and sky box
I have Sky + HD box and it was all working fine till recently. Suddenly both remotes have started to play up. The volume works fine and they turn the tv on and off so they are set up fine with my tv. However from time to time and very frequently most of the functions on the remote do not work. I can't fast forward, rewind, etc.
We have quite recently got a digisender for the neighbouring room so we can watch the same channels in that room and we can use a spare remote control to play, fast forward etc. When the remotes stop working I go into the next room and point the remote at the digisender box and the remote works again. I then bring it back into the normal room and it works fine for a while. But then suddenly maybe a couple of commercial breaks later it stops workign again. It is driving us mad. Any thoughts? Happens on all the remote controls we have. They never fail to work in the other room with the digisender receiver only in the main room with the sky HD box. Grateful for any advice! Cheers |

firstly is it sunny when you have these problems ? does closing the curtains help ?
the cable from the sky box is a good quality cable ? and if home made that the inner cable is free from the outer wires touching it. In addition the outer cable is touching the outer barrel of the fittings to earth the system has this started after you fitted the digisender ? have you switched the sky box off for 5 minutes to reset it. |

so the second room works fine and digisender works ok What I want you to do is, take the sky remote from the second room and put in the code for the telly in the room where the sky box is try it in this room and see what happens if the remote works better then it must be the remote in the first room is faulty. If you have the same results , then the box itself is faulty.................... or you may have moved it, even slightly and line of sight has been affected. Even my coffee table affects mine ! |

Any low energy lights in the other room? They can sometimes emit IR signals.

I have a Nikkai 5.8GHz setup which seemed to be having the same problem... fine in the extension room, but remote probs in the room where the sender was situated.
On the Nikkai transmitter unit, there is a red plastic cover on the front. Yours may be of similar design. Try covering this up to stop the IR from your remote hitting it. There appears to be 2 diodes behind that plastic front, one which continuously flickers slightly. The other (I believe) is picking up the remote while your actually in the main room, and sending a signal to your gear through the small IR emitter that's positioned in front of your equipment, resulting in 2 signals being received by the sky box... one from the emitter, and one from your remote. I tried covering it, and it worked for me. |
