Mobile Phone Insurance

Can anyone recommend a mobile phone insurance company ?

I am currently with Virgin Mobile using a Nokia N8 mobile phone... and today i lost my phone (briefly) at a kebab house lol - luckily for me i am well known there and the delivery driver found my phone so all good...

It has now got me thinking !! if something like this was to happen again or maybe theft, loss damage etc of the mobile phone, maybe i should be covered ?

Thank you

I'm covered under my home insurance with the Co-op. Added my iPhone to the policy for £3 a month. Most policies cover phones under £200 for no extra though.

I'm covered on my home insurance at no extra cost (iphone 32gig 3gs) the only thing they wont cover is any phone calls made between losing the phone and blocking it!

Worth checking with your bank, a lot of them offer mobile phone insurance at little or no extra cost (depending on your accoun type)

I'd 2nd that as well.

We are with Barclays and we have upgraded our account to cover us for extras (one of them being mobile insurance).

We did it on the joint account and costs us £5 extra/month (so we are paying £2.50 each/phone) to cover my HD2 and her Desire.

Also the T's & C's look a lot better than some of the dedicated mobile phone insurances.

We have 3 Orange iPhones in our house, 2 protected by Orange Care, which has been excellent and always used it. On a previous Samsung, one button fell off, gave Orange a call and next morning had a brand new phone delivered by 10am and the other one back to them in a carrier bag, and same Samsung wouldnt charge after that, Orange offered another new phone in colour of our choice and got it next day!

One of our iPhones seemed to have a problem with its battery life, called Orange, they done a few checks and agreed with us, so Orange made appointment for us at the local Apple Genius Bar for that same day in our name for us, had a brand new iPhone that evening, after getting the new phone, we got a phonecall from them asking for the new IMEI number to update their records. Cant fault their insurance at all

We also have two O2 iPhones here, neither have insurance. One doesnt want it. But the other iPhone 4, their insurace was requested with the contract, but they failed to put it through their system, so they dont have it. After much trouble with them, they are not even bothering with them anymore.

Isnt there usually some overlap between home insurance, warranty/statutory rights and paying extra for insurance.

Most providers seem to charge £7-10 a month, which over a 24 month contract is £168-240, which seems rather expensive unless you think its quite likely you'll lose or break your phone?

A: Don't be so foolish as to lose your phone
B: Don't be so foolish as to get it nicked.
C: That equals no extra monies paid.

We all make mistakes though. B especially is something that can never be completely controlled by you so calling someone foolish for having their phone nicked is a bit short-sighted.

Getting a replacement from Apple would have had nothing to do with Orange, you could have booked your own appointment and still would have walked away with a new iPhone.

Actually Apple were quite resistant in giving us a new iPhone, they wanted to have it taken for further checks and repair. But once they realised Orange scheduled the appointment for us and requested a phone swap, we got a new one. The Apple store were actually surprisingly hard to deal with, quite rude.
