I think both adverts were poor, and both teams made some very bad decisions.
I don't think either of them hit their target market, either. No woman would ever buy Oktokleen on the strength of the ad, whereas I imagine some people might be struck by the Germ-o-nator. Especially were it not an overnight job. They had to churn out an advert in a couple of hours, and while obviously it was peppered with flaws, it formed a sort of cogent message, and came together as a vaguely coherent brand.
Meanwhile, Oktokleen targetted itself at women, and then proceeded to demean them in every way. It was just an excuse for Christopher to be creepy. Neither of them worked out, but Oktokleen was pedestrian and shite. Germ-o-nator was something a wee bit different and shite. Do agree that Oktokleen had the better bottle, but I think as far as the brands went, Germ-o-nator's was vaguely endearing, as opposed to a sort of bizarre misogenistic sludge.
Kinda think Lord Sugar just wanted to weed out some of the candidates he saw as less capable. Frankly it was a narrow game at best - something like a 55:45 ratio - and he did say "at least one of you will be fired" before he dismissed the team - he had a double firing in his eyes. I think he saw Alex and Laura making a lot of mistakes and decided he wanted them gone.
