is you're fired really just an excuse to humiliate the fired candidate? this week for example Ruby Wax seemed to delight in taking the piss out of Alex and to his credit he took it well. But not everyone would handle it as well as he did. And ok he could be annoying but he wasn't a bad guy really so why does he deserve to be ridiculed by Ruby 'look at me i'm so funny' Wax?

I haven't watched it yet I've got it taped.

But knowing that Ruby Wax is on - I might not even bother.

Her humour is always directed at making fun of someone and from what I've seen of Alex I think he's a really nice guy so I won't like it.

Ruby Wax is even less funny than recent guest Jenny Eclair and that's saying something. I didn't like Alex and thought he deserved the boot but she was a bit nasy at times...silly cow.

there came a point when ruby/trevor looked like they were gawking at an animal at a zoo (as they addressed him)..But it was hard to muster any sympathy for him because he was milking it just waffling on and on in a "I hope I get remembered for this so I can have a media career" sort of way..

On the show I thought he was a tad awkward a little loopy but entirely harmless..But on YAF he came across as a calculating individual who seemed a bit of a phony..

If you watched his face everytime they showed scenes of his antics he wore this mischievous grin as if he was saying to himself "nailed it, job well done"..He seemed to have almost "narcissistic" traits I'm glad hes gone, WHAT A COWARD..

I never understood the relevance of having Trevor Nelson on the panel anyway.

I found the whole thing very uncomfortable to watch on two levels.

The first is that Ruby Wax in nowhere as funny as she thinks she is. Normally there is a lot of leg pulling on YF but she is just plain rude and Trevor Nelson seemed to be following her lead. She laughs at people rather than with them. She was on the Andrew Marr programme not so long ago and I had to walk away. She kept interupting the other people with what she evidently thought were witty and insightful comments but what everyone else clearly thought were annoying and embarrassing.

Secondly, Alex came across on YF exactly the same as he was on the actual programme itself. Normally people come across as quite different and often as human He just talked a lot and talked loudly. Where most of the candidates would laugh at a question or make a self effacing remark, he answered like he was at a job interview. I couldn't work out if this was because he truly is a twit who believes what he was saying or he was just acting it up to try to make a fool out of Ruby Wax (if so it didn't work).

I thought it was one of the best YF's. Alex was never going to win, he probably realised that, so milked it for all he could.

I'd rather have an Alex type than one of the deluded fools who are more useless than a bottle of kitchen cleaner that looks like poison and really think they have a chance

I was at this You're Fired taping, so I thought I'd chip in with a few observations

Firstly, Alex acted like he did from the moment he came on to the stage. He was very unengaging and barely looked at the audience. After we had just watched him getting fired, I felt a little sorry for him. But by the end of the You're Fired taping, my sympathy for him began to lessen. I don't think he was putting on an act, I feel he is exactly like that as a person

Ruby Wax was a lot more "vicious" than what appeared on the final edited show. At one point she said something to Alex that was somewhat derogatory and the audience gasped. This was cut. (I can't remember what she said, sorry). She also kept referring to the image on the cleaning product as "looking like a lesbian" and all these references were cut.

BTW for those that like to know (I can't remember if this was on the show), but Dara asked him what he's doing now, and he is working as a consultant.

Most weeks the complaint is that they are too nice to the fired candidates so this post makes a change.

Apparently Lord Sugar has just tweeted that he heard Alex being interviewed on breakfast TV saying he is going to be a mentor and asking who exactly he feels qualified to be a mentor for.

He said on BBC Breakfast that he is now working back at the place where he was before.

I thought Alex was hard work. I work in media and he's the kind of lumpen idiot we hate having to deal with. Zero charisma. He came across exactly as you describe and, I would add, appears to be incredibly unaware of just how stupid he really is. His lack of humour was obvious and his inability to even be honest about himself really pitiful.

Yeah, I thought Ruby was just silly but at least I got to drool over Trevor - who is one of the coolest men on the planet

I really like Ruby. Alex made himself look like a prize tw*t.

Something I've always wondered & you might know, how much time has elapsed (roughly) from when they film the Apprentice episode until they appear on You're Fired ??

I think one is safe in assuming, whatever is said to the self-satisfied oiks, who go on the Apprentice, very little of it will penetrate in any LASTING way?.Regardless of (diminishing) competence, every year the candidates seem to be less self-aware and increasingly defiant... in defeat? .

Well, all of the series have been filmed around Autumn and then shown during Spring, but as you know this series was delayed. So I would guess it has been approximately a whole year for this series contestants.

Oh and just to clear up, he said he was consulting for a company he used to work for. I guess before he became "unemployed"

Just watched it. Dear Lord(alan), it was hilarious.

I thought Ruby was very funny. Alex is such a pompous little twazzock. Not a nasty bone in him but so unself-aware it's painful!

I think Dara and Ruby started off, in relatively subtle fashion, to ridicule Alex and he simply didn't realise what was going on. This seemed to encourage Ruby, in particular, to get more and more obvious in her mickey taking. Even then, Alex didn't seem to understand what was happening. He seems to be missing something - whether it is that he is "on the spectrum" as someone suggested above, or lacks a sense of humour, or is just not very intelligent, I don't know. Sometimes he appeared to be so wrapped up in himself that you wondered whether he was actually listening to what the others were saying. Whatever the reason, many of the panel's and Dara's comments simply seemed to fly over Alex's head.

He does, however, appear to be fairly thick-skinned, so his self-confidence looked to have remained intact,

He had to go, but will be missed for sheer entertainment value.

I agree with your comments on Alex though - I find a lack of sense of humour (or failing to understand humour) in anyone pretty unforgiveable.

Alex always seemed rather phony to me. Like when he came back from the boardroom the first week and celebrated like a football hooligan would, that was weirdly out of character. Plus in the taxi after he was fired, it was a kind of 'Well f*ck you, Lord Sugar' type of response.
Both instances made me question whether he really was so unassuming, but then again, I don't think someone would go on the Apprentice and act like a fool on purpose. Except maybe to get the sympathy vote lol Not that there is a vote.
