Galaxy S Battery Life
Granny Lynne
11-11-2010
When I got my Galaxy S at the beginning of September, I used it quite a lot, exploring all the different Apps, downloading and reading books, taking photos, surfing the net etc. The battery needed charging every other day.
Now I have explored everything, I don't use it so much, just check out Facebook once a day and make / answer a couple of calls, the odd text every few days. The battery is now needing to be charged every night.
Also, when I touch an icon, it takes ages to open up the App.
Is this normal or should I return it to Orange and ask for a replacement.

Pretty much all smart phones need charging every day.

My iPhone 4 needs 2 charges a day, and my HTC HD needs charging once a day.

Thanks Darth
What about the sluggish performance?

My iPhone 3GS is charged 3 times a day. I tested it out the other day and was down to 47% after 2 hours.

I spent that time browsing the Internet and playing Angry Birds

I generally use about 120 mins of calls a day.

The joys of a long distance relationship.

I easily go through 2000 texts a month too.

Plus I do a lot of travelling due to my job, so I'm usually using a few apps for a few hours a day too.

I fixed mine by rooting the phone and installing a version of the 'Onetouch LagFix' apps out there.

Androidforums.com is a good place to get all this info and has a dedicated section for the Galaxy. Must say it made a world of difference to the speed. Just need to wait for an official Froyo now...

Thats the one area of smartphones that isn't really that smart ....

But 2 charges a day????

Wish that more devices had battery life like the BB 7230/7290 that I used years back - that would last 7 days on a charge, pulling through e-mail 24 hours a day, so it was definitely active.

I do miss my Nokia 6310. That phone could go weeks without needing a charge.

But I agree about smart phone batteries not being very smart.

I guess we should view smart phones more as mini computers.

The 6310 was legendary; I remember hearing of managers at work that kept hold of them way longer than any other handset regardless of the beatings they got, purely down to battery life and reliability.

Smart phones have been mini computers for quite a while; Nokia strangely tried to make out they weren't making phones, but were making pocket computers .... in a way they're right. Don't know about some of the Android/iPhones, but the Symbian devices can connect up to a TV, use a wireless keyboard/mouse and work as a tiny media center

My Nokia 6310 from work lasted over 3 years.

It took one hell of a beating, regularly dropped, but hardly a scratch on it.

If there was ever a nuclear attack, it would have survived it.

It would have lasted longer, but we moved networks at work, and got new phones, which despite being better, didnt have the reliability of the 6310.

I have connected my iPhone to a TV, to view tv shows and movies.
