Yup, it comes in December then will be fully available by April and then will replace the BBC replay so the content wise will increase from the BBC based on what's on the iplayer

excerpt "The BBC-branded application will be accessed through the programme menu and is the full iPlayer package – offering 'almost all' of the television and radio programmes available on the online iPlayer."

I wonder what will be the criteria for the roll out which is to take 3/4 months?

Let's hope they add 4od too. The current selection is poor (no Big Bang Theory!) and programmes seem to randomly disappear mid series.

Who knows.

why a rollout is needed for this I don't know. I hope it isn't based on random serial numbers like before. too me ages before D8 software got to me. and we had people complaining to BT about the guide bug, which threatened a pull of the software.

It makes sense as to why the green room has appeared, this is obviously testing the new interface for iplayer, including the access to it from anywhere system. (press green on any menu to get into it)
It's a long awaited addition, BT desperately needs it.

Does this mean that the iplayer content will come from BBC's storage and not BT's? and does it also mean we'll get some things in HD? or at least free up room for other things to be in HD?

Ah,

I was wondering this too.

But I would speculate no. As you know, the box doesn't support HD unless you pre-download it.

And then you have to pay. At least thats the way it is now.

But, with this going to be a Vision iPlayer derivitive, I hope it won't be the buggy beta version thats now on the internet.

I think thats Incorrect.

The box can stream HD down the line (goto system info it'll say DTT Streams 1/0 (SD/HD) ), we don't have multicasting enabled to offer such a feature. BBC's network do. (just try iplayer on a PC you get bbc HD easy on that).

I assumed that IF the content comes from BBC's network as opposed to BT's then Logically if a PC can stream HD down (Via a flash player), then the BT box can as it's running an embedded Windows. The only reason we charge at the moment for replay is because we need the content delivery system paid for.

It will be built and tailored to the spec of the vision box. Probably the green room tested that.

Presentation framework

The BBC blog also outlined the technology that was used to bring the service to BT Vision.

"BT Vision's set-top boxes use the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV platform to deliver TV on demand alongside TV broadcast over Freeview, added Summerfield.

"Last year Microsoft added a technology to this called Presentation Framework (MSPF) to let IPTV network operators add extra services delivered over the Web.

"We partnered with Pushbutton to build the BBC iPlayer app on BT Vision using this technology. You'll see the experience is pretty slick!"
That assumes that iPlayer content is external, thus freeing up storage on BT's servers. this could pave the way for more content or more content categories.

Technically if this is being delivered by the web, then whats to stop them making other interfaces for other stuff?

"We"?

Please identify your connection to Vision.

I'm not confronting, just asking in a pretty, pretty please way.

I mean as customers (like myself) we pay for replay not because of the content but the transport of the content. (which is why it's free on respective websites).

Im not connected to BT in any way. Im just a Gold Vision subscriber.

Ah, thanks for that.

The release said we will get all/nearly all, of the full functions. Thats why I thought it would be a Vision derivitve, not the full web iPlayer

It'll be the full web iplayer content with a iplayer interface similar to the freesat/wii/ps3 one written for BT.

I am assuming it will use the green room technology as that looks and moves very slick. that article says that it will be slick.

it's convenient that that room appeared same time as iplayer being announced. it browses trailers, but we can already do that.... RED isn't doing anything on the system menus maybe that will be mapped to iplayer?
