Can anybody give me the best settings to use with VLC Player to convert the ts file from a Foxsat HDR to DVD please.
I tried to follow the advice here, but the output isn't very smooth.

I'm using the GUI rather than a script.

Here's what I am currently using:
Profile: Video-MPEG-2 +MPGA(TS)
Encapsulation: MPEG-PS
Video Codec: Video, Keep original Video Track, Codec MPEG-2, bitrate 4000 kb/s, Frame Rate: 25 fps, Scale 1, Width 720, Height 576.

I also tried using MediaCoder, but it only converts the leading advert, and stops when it gets to the main program.
I posted an entry here:

DVD Flick will load the original transport stream files without conversion as will Videredo TVsuite (Unlike DVD Flick it's not free though)

Thanks, DVD Flick does the job, but it's very slow. Unless there is an option I've misssed. I checked 'Copy MPEG-2 Streams'

You don't need to tick any of the options.

One of the penalties of free software I'm afraid. There appears to be no way to tell the sotware to use the mpeg2 data as is, so it insists on recodeing.

Try the trial version of videoredo tvsuite. It only recodes at edit points so it's very fast (but ultimately not free after the trial expires). It's worth the money though.

If you want to use a different authoring package videoredo plus is cheaper as it simply writes a edited .mpg file extremely quickly.
