keep your finger on the icon until it goes wobbly, it will then sport a b/w X which allows you to delete it from the phone. once finished deleting the apps, press the home button once and all is back to normal.

you do of course still own the apps, they can be found in itunes, and can also be restored through itunes at any time.

2 screens? you have 7 or 9 (escapes me now, as i have my icons sorted in folders and onyl need 5). if you add more apps than there is room on 2 screens, a 3rd screen is opened and so on.

Many thanks for that there are ones for stocks and notes that done seem to come off so must be ones all ready build into the phone.

Also is there any way of changing the time the screen stays light after not touching the screen for so long? as it goes off to fast for me?

Im new to the iphone.

correct, the icons that came with the phone already cannot be removed, AFAIK. perhaps if one used a jailbreak and a non-itunes app, but i haven't seen the need for that yet so i cannot comment. just put the unwanted icons in a folder on the last screen perhaps. it's what i did with them.

go to SETTINGS >> GENERAL >> AUTOLOCK - that allows to set the time for the screen to shut down. i set that to 3 minutes, it feels the screen dims after about 2:45 and then switches off at 3 min.

BTW, there is an iphone user guide, open Safari, it's right there in the bookmarks.

Many thanks for all that DSDP

just one more thing is there anyway to get the phone to remember passwords and usernames and also to remember the wireless details?

it should remember them by default. unless i made changes to my WLAN details, for example, it always logs straight in when i come home or into the office.

same goes for any other login details i used so far. only one that keeps asking is the itunes store, which is a good thing anyway.

If you want it to remember usernames and passwords through Safari, it should ask if you want to remember when you press submit. However, this does not apply to things like webmail and internet banking, as that would be a touch unsecured. If it still doesn't do it, go to Settings -> Safari -> Autofill and make sure Names & Passwords is switched on.

You can un-check them in iTunes so that when you sync they are removed. That is how I removed mine..

just tried hat, cannot be done. like on the phone itself, there is no X to delete the apps that came with the phone originally.

that's a 3GS, iOS 4.1, no JB.

hi what call100 was referring to was that you can untick apps that you have in itunes so when it syncs the unticked ones wont be synced to you phone but he didn't mean that you could remove the apps that come pre-loaded with the phone just ones you have downloaded

Yes. There are ways to remove all the icons. Some you can remove by turning on restrictions and doing it from there. Others you have to use third party software. Anyway, far too much involved in that. Simply put them on your last page. Or in a separate folder out of the way.

i was wording it wrong there. you cannot actually delete anything for good, unless you actively give back apps you purchased. it's a pain cos with having to try them before you get a full idea how badly some of them have been done, you wind up with quite a number of unwanted apps.

just as you can remove icons of purchased apps from the phone by making them go 'wobbly' you can hover the cursor over them in itunes and uncheck them by clicking the X that appears. said X is not coming up for the original handful of apps. just thried that again. they are also not listed with the purchased apps so you could untick the box.

perhaps you guys could share a screenshot, maybe i am goinmd about it in teh wrong fashion.

until then, i will stick with my method of hiding them in the rubbish folder i put on my last screen.
