Hey, was just wondering if anyone else was going to the recording of the children in need special tomorrow night.

I got offered tickets to go by the saturdays record label to go and i accepted, is my first time at a tv show recording, any tips?

Do you think it will be busy, or not as bad considering its only a very short show?

Thanks

Since you're going to the recording of this show please can we have a report if possible and also if you can may there be a spoiler as well - I would love to find out who wins this.

If it's not too much trouble could you do a spoiler thread instead/as well? I'd quite like to know what happens, as would many I imagine

Ok here is my mini report from last night.

After a depressing day I didnt know if I would really enjoy this but I did and it was just what I needed.

As Im am rather too old to know much about the music of McFly and The Saturdays or even to recognise the band members, Im perhaps not the right person to comment on the music (so please correct me if Im wrong) but I believe that Rochelle (from The Saturdays) and Ian Waite danced to a McFly song (they did an American Smooth) whilst Harry (the drummer from McFly [Im told]) danced a Paso Doble with Ola Jordan to a Saturdays song.

As they started the recording late, it was quite informal. Loads of kids around and especially in front and around me. It was surprising that there seemed to be a group of charity/production guests who really weren't supporters of either McFly or the Saturdays.

The judges were Craig, Len, Terry Wogan and Pudsy (for CIN). It was hot in the studio so I can just imagine how hot it was inside the Pudsy costume. [Bit of a shame really as I was just sitting behind the judges so once Pudsy was in situ I had the feeling of "doors and windows" - although apart from this the view was great because there were so many of the audience were kids that I could see the whole dance floor except for the bit with Pudsy between me and it.]

Tess's dress was in my opinion was worse than the ostrich thing she wore last weekend. It looked like an Easyjet orange sheet draped over her, much liked you'd do with a large towel when you get out the shower. [In my opinion, it actually made some of the really awful dresses so far this year look classy - sorry Tess.] There was a bit of banter between Tess and Terry about their CiN competition a couple of years ago, Tess happened to mention she still polishes her trophy every day... (I felt like saying "pass me a bucket").

Rochelle and Ian went first. I think she said they'd only had 7 hrs worth of training (possibly this week) and she was a little unsure on her feet. Her pink dress was quite modern but very pretty. She did do a good job even though it looked like she was shaking with nerves and only a couple of significant mishaps as far as I could see including quite a stumble on a throwaway. She did a couple of really good and showy lifts though.

Judges comments:
Spoiler
Craig had a list of negatives and got booed. Len was typically nice. Terry (I had trouble hearing what he said) but seemed to like it and Pudsy just put his thumbs up.

Spoiler
Scores (I think) - 6, 9, 8, 10 (or something that added up to 33. [Tess's maths obviously not good because she said 23 to begin with so they had to record the slot again.]

Harry and Ola next. I think Harry had more training time with Ola because his Paso stuff even in the training video looked good (and tbh better than Michelle and Brendan's paso we will see later today). The dance itself was really good and I was really impressed. Their costumes were red and black but modern and quite difficult to describe, but lovely. The dance itself had a very impressive lift at the start
Spoiler
when Harry swung Ola onto the back of his shoulders (Ive seen James and Ola do that at one of their cabaret shows - its not easy)
. There was some really good promenades/counter promenades and some twists (which aren't at all easy). Loved the dance overall and personally I thought they were the best of the two. And I was particularly surprised at how well he was able to lead.

Judges comments:
Spoiler
Basically the judges all loved it. Craig couldnt really find fault if I remember, Len and Terry were both gushing.

Spoiler
Scores: 9, 9, 7 (from Terry just so he could imitate Len's Sevvvvveeerrrn) and 10 - total 35.

More in a bit.

Amazing - Harry is pretty competative so I bet he was glad he did well, I've suddenly become a McFly fan so I'm rather pleased he's doing it - plus all the backstage stuff they'll put on their website (mcfly.com)

In the interim while we all voted (passed around pieces of paper and we had to put a tick for the couple we liked the best), instead of an organised pro dance from either the competing pros or the dance troupe, they said we were in for a real treat in that we were going to be able to see the rehearsal for one of the music acts this weekend.

A few microphones and some music type amps were brought on the stage (to the steps) and then Stuart (the warm up guy/MC) announced The Soldiers and I did a double take because I know that my fav pros (Vincent and Flavia) are dancing to their music act tonight. I didnt think I would be lucky enough to see the dancers rehearse but just get to hear the song that they were singing but no sooner had the group appeared on the steps than Stuart announced Vincent and Flavia and they came in to huge cheers and they were rehearsing their number in their showdance costumes.

As Im not sure there will be any background shown before the performance, I thought it might be a good idea to give you a precis of what I can remember. Basically the words for the song came directly (word for word) from a letter that one soldier wrote back to his wife/gf about her being the light of his life and that if he ever got injured/killed in battle in Afghanistan, then she was to promise him that she would go on living her life in the present and not the past and to find another love.

The music was sort of waltz/rumbaesque and definitely comes under the heading of show dance although I think there were only 2 lifts, basically it was just beautiful, emotional and poignant..... and actually really sad to hear one brave soldier's words put to music and the emotion that Vincent and Flavia brought to the performance (even in rehearsal). As it was a sound/lighting/costume rehearsal, they did the performance twice - Im so looking forward to seeing it on the TV since I missed the bit they did in front of the judges table that I couldnt see properly.

As this performance is "Remembrance" based, I have a feeling that this might be shown on tonight's show rather than the results show since as I understand it, both Alesha and Annie Lennox are going to be singing (either individually or duetting) as well.

OK back to the CiN Special Results.

The dancers came on stage and lined up for the MOT. The trophy was brought on. Not a proper glitter ball but a Pudsey model thing on top of a mini type glitter ball and we were ready.

The cheering in the studio for both the Saturdays and McFly meant I couldnt hear a word that Tess was saying ... but the result is in:
Spoiler
Harry and Ola won
and the glitter tape flew around the studio.

Then it was a slow scramble out of the studio and back to the audience foyer to queue for the phones and coats.

A great evening and I really enjoyed myself and thanks to Force Ten for coming with me (although I understand that it was no hardship for her!) At least now I will know the gem of what to expect if I ever get tickets to the show proper (although Im not holding my breath).

Thanks for the brilliant report...
Spoiler
It seems poor Ian is never to get his hands on a trophy, except fleetingly in his five wins with Zoe in the 2008 tour!

Can I just pop on this thread to say that I think they should if they can try and do a few specials like this throughout the year for different causes - Heaven knows there are enough of them out there and it may be controversial but not all of them here at home. It would also give celebs and pros who can't/don't want to sign up to a potential full season the chance to take part and help fill the wait for the viewers from one season to the next.
