While Corrie has been compulsive viewing during the past couple of months, it got me thinking of the flip side and some of the flop storylines that have featured on the show throughout the years- alot of them under Steve Frost and Kim Crowther unsurprisingly

The ones that stand out for me as being particularly awful are the following:

Molvin
Michelle/ Ryan/ Alex baby swap
Dev and Nina Mandal's affair
Tyrone being roped into Aunty Pam's selling
Rosie's fling with John Stape
John Stape in Prison/ Wedding to Fiz
Ashley/ Casey/ Claire Triangle
Claire's Miscarriage
Kelly Crabtree trying to sell knickers on the side
Steve McDonald, Ronnie Clayton and her gun toting hubby
Sean/ Violet/ Jamie and baby Dylan
Gail being jailed for 'killing' Joe

Sean/Michelle/Michelle's boyfriend

Future crap storyline (you just know it will be): Tracy getting released from prison

Yeah Michelle has had her fair share of horrendous plots over the years, as has Dame Tully

I'm actually intrigued to see how on earth they are gonna stage a comeback for Tracy...

Don't know if it counts as a proper storyline really but, Becky and Steve's 1st wedding day. One of the most ridiculously unfunny, OTT Corrie eps in recent memory.

Definately that one with Michelle and the eccentric roof tiler who fell into her bathroom; so glad it was shortlived!

Scooter and Sarah save some fish
Sarah seduces Jason by sticking a plaster on his finger
Tyrone and Molly drive their burning chip van into a park pond
Cilla steals Blanche's scooter
Cilla burns down the chip shop

Ones that I hated and couldn't wait to finish were mainly the Michelle/ Ryan/ Alex baby swap and the whole Dev, Nina and Tara thing.. Actually stopped watching both of them at one point I think and hadn't missed an episode for quite a few years before that point. Bits of the Molvin storyline also tested ... well, intelligence as well as patience. And the whole Joe/debts storyline I thought dragged on a little too long and became a snore-fest. Starting to feel the same way about the whole Steve/Becky/baby storyline too.

Agree with all of these.

Most of the storylines that involved Cilla were pure panto. I was just reminding myself of her stories whilst reading the Wikipedia entry about her and gawd, I'd forgotten some of the nonsense she got up to:

Anything involving Sean Tully, John Stape, Fizz, Michelle and Joe before he died. It just my personal opinion, but I really don't get how they're all still on the payroll.

The main one for me has to be Michelle and the 'baby swap' story. It's just been swept under the carpet now.

At least Emmerdales story (at the same time!) had a bit more to it.

Ivys Ghost

Frankie/Danny/Jamie love triangle

Diggory Comptons Rolls being off and stale (caused havoc on the cobbles)

Martin PLatt being a mascot for a footy team

Ashley and the boxing match

Claire wanting to be a train driver

Mike Baldwins Alzheimers (a good storyline but too too rushed. Should have had him in for years later and shown the deterioration of a strong character rather than having him die of Pneumonia.)

Baby Swap 9Michelle/Ryan (dreadful and still not resolved)

Becky and the drugs on her wedding day

A lot more dreadful storylines have happened throughout the 50 years but not all can be crackers!

The most recent one that had me scurrying for the remote were when Dev's really irritating aunties were visiting from India and he and Sinitta had to pretend to be living together. They kept extending their stay and the farce got more excruciating as it went on.

I also hate when they use really terrible plot devices to introduce new characters or provoke a big confrontation, e.g. Ken finding the letter from his ex girlfriend which leads to him having yet another son and grandson crawl out of the woodwork. A few years ago they did a similar thing when Ivy Tilsley's diary was found and David discovered that Gail very nearly aborted him. Total rubbish.

How could have I have forgotten the awful, badly plotted, poorly researched and ridiculously unrealistic portrayal of Joe's addiction to painkillers...utter crap and a complete insult to the viewers, he had recovered in a couple of episodes....abysmal

I think the baby swop with Michelle's sons by far the worse, especially as they just dropped it

I honestly think that it is a toss-up between that one and Molvin

Remember a story with Des barnes and was it Derek Wilton re gnomes sending postcards - or have I got the wrong protagonists?

I loved the Becky 1st wedding. Was really good.

I've heard about a notoriously bad storyline involving Derek Wilton and vanishing garden gnomes, that would have been around the mid Nineties yeah?

Kim Crowther performed character assassination on Molly with the affair storyline, not one shred of it was believable

Oh yes, how could I forget about The Aunties? They, and that storyline, were woeful!

A clip from that utterly ridiculous storyline featured on The Corrie Years last night when the actor Peter Baldwin was interviewed about his life post-Corrie. The clip of the gnomes' footprints in the concrete was just pants. People with rose-tinted glasses may look back on that period of the show and say how great it was but that was really too Last of the Summer Wine territory.

Recent additions to this thread would have to include the preposterous affair between Karl and Sunita. What's compounded it is the fact that these characters are currently co-habiting while the writers decide what the hell to do with them- awful planning and character development.

I really don't like story lines that depend on making someone change character, or behave entirely uncharacteristically usually right out of the blue. Molly and Kevin was one example, and Sunita's seduction of Karl is another. What happened to her??

My memory is so bad honestly, but the worst storyline I can remember was the Chinese girl/Graeme/Tina. That was dreadful, I switched off for several weeks if not months after that. It was just so tedious and her voice drove me mad.

Also, what someone said about Dev's aunties up there^. Oh, this is really weird because I had totally forgotten about that storyline, thinking about it just feels like when you remember a really, really bad and uncomfortable and embarrassing dream. The fact that I can scarcely remember it clearly shows how I subconsciously removed it from my memory I switched off following that as well.
