Yes,

Sky are offering shit-loads of discounts to loads of subscribers.

Previously, these discounts were only offered to people who cancelled/complained to cancel.

I have been wondering why?

ie, Why they have started doing this? To subber's who haven't threatened to cancel.

I'm reluctant to give up Sky completly as being in N Ireland I can only really get RTE etc digitally - on Sky
I like the Sky remote - and there doesn't seem to be a way to set prog reminders on BTVision?

No, you can't. Why is this function so important to you?

Because I've been using it on Sky and found it very useful - OK?

Because they are a business, they will charge as much as they think people will pay and if people complains they will drop the price for a while to keep them. i suppose they just hope that enough people keep paying the full price.

Bt do the same sort of thing as well, you want to see what they tried to give me when I cancelled my broadband. Free BTV box, free subscription for a month and a naff fiver off my broadband.

all I wanted was a decent service for a decent price.

I don't think Sky is giving much away to new customers. to be honest, they are more into promoting their HD services and all their offers seem to be based around that.

Looked last week with a friend who was just thinking about getting Sky.

To get a free Sky box and installation they would either have to pay the extra £10 a month for Hd, which is a waste of time since they don't have a HDTV or get sky Movies/sky sport, which they don't want. so they have given up.

They thought it would be a good way to get their T.v into the digital world and have a few more channels. they now decided to wait until digital switch over and hopefully their aerial will be able to cope when the muxs are bunched back, if they do bunch them back up into the same group of frequencies as we got on analogue

ie, Why they have started doing this? To subber's who haven't threatened to cancel.
i did not think they have, they have pushed their HD boxes and giving people offers to get them to change to HD, but again they are not great, to get a free HD box, they have to get muilti room

someone at work was looking at getting Sky Hd, I had to explain to her that it would cost her another £20 a month on top of what they are paying now, £10 odd a month for Multiroom and £10 odd a month for Sky Hd. They are going to phone sky at the weekend and see what they can do.

They may give them a better offer.

I don't use reminders that often on my PVR, but then I record 99% of the stuff I watch.

but I suppose if you are watching say the news on news 24 while waiting for something to come onto another channel, then a reminder is useful

I notice at a mates place that a message comes up on the screen now again saying about reminders, that would really annoy me

A reminder function has been asked about and 'wished for' since back in 2007....

And the observant will notice I myself on that very thread, when I was a BT Vision customer.
