thats what i don't understand bout this show and dragons den and i can't say much cos i work for one of the dragons, but alan suger and the dragons get paid to make the show and then they reap the benifits (new go getting apprentice or busness idea/product) and we the licence fee payer pick up the tab for some of the richest folk in the country (hows that work)

Dunno about the Dragons, but Sugar donates his fee to charity. Great Ormond Street in the past, maybe still. And he has to pay someone, £100,000 for the first year. Can't blame him for trying to pick the most suitable employee as a result.

The fee, task costs etc are all paid by Talkback Thames. The BBC just buys the finished show. It can get up to 9 million viewers, that's making a lot of licence payers happy.

Before The Apprentice started in 2005, a lot of people wouldn't have heard of Sir Alan Sugar. Or wondered where he'd got to (he was big in the 80's). Now even my sister has bought his damn book lol. I think it'd be easier just to buy a new table

Almost - TT pay the £100k as well for a year. After that the 'winner' would be paid by Lord Al. I'm guessing at nowhere near £100k either seeing as most seem to leave shortly after.
In fairness, his existing staff probably wouldn't be best pleased at playing underdog to a reality show winner, so the salary will drop.

Unless it's Baggs of course, who would be well worth it.
