British regional foods that are no such thing
Some British foods have EU regional protection, for example Stilton cheese and, as I was once surprised to find out, Melton Mowbray pies. However, with some products it is purely a marketing device. The most notorious of course are Cheddar cheese which can come anywhere from Cheddar Gorge to Australia, via Canada, and Cornish pasties.
However, there are some things that at first sight you might think are regional but, in fact, aren't. For example, Wiltshire ham does not necessarily have anything to do with Wiltshire. |

Apparently shropshire blue cheese was named because it sounded good and regional although it had nothing to do with shropshire.
Many of the cornish clotted cream ice creams do not contain cornish milk. |

Bakewell tarts; at least the rubbish tartlet with icing and a glace cherry you get from Greggs. The one you get from Bakewell is apparently a pudding and is huge, delicious and can keep for months.
