Ok i admit it and put my hands up.

I originally thought Katy Perry would be a one hit wonder with I Kissed A Girl.

It was a great song but didnt think it could be topped and she would just fade after a rubbish second single.

But i have to give it to her and say she is very good at what she does and has some amazing hits, if not better than her first song.

Just wondering whether anyone else thought she was just a one trick pony?

I didn't, I was into her when I kissed a girl came out and liked ur so gay too, I knew she was a decent songwriter, i kinda figured she'd plateau at he popularity after hot n cold came out but didn't think she'd disappear.

I though so too. Well I hoped more, as I hated 'I Kissed a Girl' and felt that it was manipulative of her to release as her debut a controversial song, that would get headlines and stories, and thus probably a number one. I did like Hot 'n' Cold and the rest of her singles that she released from her first album, because they were much more MOR and uncontroversial and unlike IKAG as possible. I hate all her new songs though, they aren't that good.

It's the fact that she's very straightforward, slightly outrageous and very funny; actually that she is a popstar and has a personality, the reason she has become so popular all over the world. The marketing behind her has helped, though!

I didn't really like IKAG when I first heard it. It was overplayed (imo) and annoying. I loved Hot n Cold and Waking Up In Vegas. Quite liked Thinking of You. I listened to the album on we7 about a year after it's release. Bought it a few days later, it's one of my most played albums.

I also love her new album. Some on DS have said that they were disapointed with it, but I don't skip a track.

I didn't really like I Kissed A Girl when it came out first, it was overplayed too much, but I liked Hot and Cold when it came out and I became more interested in her music then.

She was very smart that she did collaborations with Timbaland and 3oh!3 to keep her in the public eye while she was recording, plus she's also got the high profile relationship with Russel Brand and had appearances as a judge on American Idol and X-Factor.

Saying that, though, her material is so strong that I doubt it would have flopped regardless of who sang it! (could you imagine California Gurls flopping???).

I'm guilty of thinking exactly that and now I'm thrilled and very appreciative of how well she's done. I think she's a very intelligent and talented girl

No I don't think it would have flopped, it's a good song. Don't like Teenage Dream (the song) so much though, it's overplayed a bit much.

I've really warmed to her recently as an artist. I think Teenage Dream is a great LP

I used to follow her on Tumbr, before she had twitter. I could tell from her determination and personality that she wouldn't allow herself to be a one hit wonder. Glad it's worked out for her

You could tell by the second single that she/her label were going to make a proper go of it, and not just be a novelty one-off.

How long she manages to continue sticking around is anyones guess though. I'm not convinced she's that versatile seeing as Teenage Dream is a Ke$ha-esque rehash of her debut.

Are you Louis Walsh?

But yeah, I thought she was going to be a one-hit-wonder too, especially after Thinking Of You didn't do as well as her other singles.

But then Waking Up In Vegas changed my mind.

I hope she'd be a one hit wonder . . .

I think she's only having hits because of her styling, rubber outfits, her hubby etc . . . sex sells, she sells mags I guess . . .

I doubt she can hang in there doing music much longer tho', . . .

Her music is terrible . . . .

I agree to a point. Take the fun side of KPs music away and you don't really have much left. She clearly is entertaining and given so many of the boring pop acts that are around at the moment there is probably more mileage left in her music. It will be interesting to see if she is gets any movie offers.

I didn't think Katy Perry was gonna be a one hit wonder, but I did think Lady GaGa was.

Utterly ridiculous to say that she is only having hits because of her styling - that old chesnut!!!!

She has had a string of great tracks and has been very sensible about how she has done things, she certainly has management that know what they're doing, that's for sure - and a good label. But at the end of the day her personality coupled with the songs are what keep her going.

She's definitely entertaining, and I think anyone would agree that she is NOT the best vocalist in the world....BUT she does have that special something...

I don't see the harm in her having fun in her videos and performances, far too many pop stars take themselves way too serious and think above their station. She makes fun pop songs and her image goes along with that. She's a great entertainer imo.

Exactly, a Gaga song doesn't have any more depth than a Katy song (in some cases even less...) but she acts like she has given birth to the new Christ when all she has done is recorded a pop song people can sing along to, at least Katy seems aware of this.

I didn't like IKAG, but loved Hot n Cold, thought she'd be a one album wonder.

Then when I listened to the album realised she was actually pretty awesome, she'd written my all-time favourite Kelly Clarkson song (Long Shot) and figured she'd be around for a long time.

Didn't think she'd stay as big as she is now though, I must admit. Surprised, but happy, at how well she's doing.

Absolutely!

I like her but I dont think shes a good singer. The girl needs some vocal coaching if shes gonna last long term

Louis sprang to mind for me too!

I thought Katy was destined to be a one-hit wonder with her controversial first single. Hot 'n' Cold was a catchy tune though.
