I don't think that's entirely fair at all (and not just because he's one of my favourite pros either!)
Because I'm slightly bored and can't sleep, I went on a Wikipedia stats hunt
The week after Cherie got 26 for her Salsa, she came back with 36 for her Waltz.
The week after Zoe was in the dance-off (undeservedly) with her jive, she got 33 for her American Smooth.
Ok, you can argue that the ballroom dances helped both those ladies in the week after their low, but that alone would be insufficient to create a good eprformance the next week. What the judges expect from Pamela and James is almost irrelevant given the state of the marking this year and the BBC's inability to create a fair running order (the same people going first all the time). I don't think there's anything to show that James isn't getting Pamela's confidence back up, because i don't think it was that badly knocked in the first place. She's there to enjoy it and she did that even in the jive, where her technique didn't end up being that great. They got 32 last night because they went first, they may have had a couple of points more (whether deserved or not) had they danced later in the show.
