I dont think it was actually no.......I thought Jennifer and Derek's Argentine Tango was the best celeb/pro AT I have ever seen but Kara and Artem did a fabulous job too. I know this is awfully shallow but if Kara and Artem had been dressed like Jennifer and Derek I think I would have had them equal.....

Hard to call. Think I prefer Kara's (just) but have to agree about the costumes - the shiny jacket and bright purple took the edge off and made it a bit cartoony.

Speaking entirely as a non dancer , I think I preferred Tointon's version as Gray's looked more as if the dance was something done to her as opposed to something she was actively and equally involved in.

Thing is although Kara & Artem are more connected as a couple. Neither comes out better than the other in this battle of the ATs.

That was great, but although clever, I think the choreography was much simpler than Kara & Artem's routine. They also had very large spreads to allow their partner to kick inbetween their legs with never a danger of getting tangled and if they did the leg flirting (the cat rubbing thing, which Kara did very well) I missed it.

Kara's routine had more intricate footwork and didnt rely on lifts for impact. I feel Kara could have danced Jennifer's routine blindfolded and while stylish, Artem would have been blasted for playing it safe.

Both great dances - and dancers - though.

What amazes me is that since her nose job there's no way I can tell who she is.

Yes, definitely. Jennifer's leg action is no where near as sharp and finished as Kara's. However the music seemed to really have helped Jennifer's performance.

Loved both dances but Kara was just slightly better.

I think technically Kara was better. But I loved the costumes more in Derek and Jennifer's dance. And they had the benefit of the stage setting etc to give an oomph to the performance and i think their music was just a fraction better too.

Kara's was sharper, earthier, less showbiz. More authentic somehow, but the costumes were apalling.

To me, the chemistry was lacking in jennifers and dereks. But the is costumes were so much better.
Rewatching it, I think Kara and artem was better, just slightly, as both are great.

Same here, even if it is shallow. Artem's jacket was distracting.

This is still the best SCD tango IMO

I preferred Kara and Artem's - as somebody else said, Jennifer and Derek relied too heavily on the lifts.

Lynwood, I adored Vincent and Rachel's AT but think Kara and Artem's was the best celeb/pro AT ever that didn't involve either Vincent or Flavia as the pro.

(Apologies in advance to all Ramps fans).

Agreed, but Kara's comes VERY close.

Completely agree with you there. And I actualy think Kara just edged it over Rachel, although it is mighty close.

You know, I can see that's technically good, but I get no passion off Rachel at all. She reminds me of a very beautiful wind up china doll. Perfect steps and completely cold.

Kara and Artem on the other hand smouldered so much it's amazing they didn't burst into flames. I loved that one.

I loved Rachel as a dancer until this series I thought she was the best dancer technically that there had ever been on Strictly but I understood why people didnt warm to her. Technically I think her AT was the best celeb/pro dance but it was a bit clinical if technically superb. I am so glad that Kara does not seem to be suffering the same fate as Rachel in that she is a superb dancer but people are also getting a personality on the dance floor.

It's a tough call. I did detest the stupid piano faffing at the beginning of Jennifer's when I saw it but the rest of the dance was phenomenal. I loved every second of Kara's but I think Jennifer's just edges it. Keep in mind though that Jennifer Grey is a trained dancer lol. I'm surprised she was even allowed in DWTS because she's not far off a professional herself and Kara is an amateur.

No, I think Kara's was better than this one. The one problem I always had with Rachel was her legs, it's what stopped her looking technically perfect sometimes. But I do think that before Kara's, Rachel's was easily the best. Now it's second best for me.

Although I know you are right about Jennifer and her experience she is 50 and has steel plates in her back from major surgery.......she dances in constant pain (and I know we do hear about it a lot on DWTS) so I think its incredible what she does each week. Mind you I would watch Derek dance with one of Erin's dummies and love it.

Oh I totally agree, she is fabulous. She's the reason I'm watching DTWS this year, I love her. I just think it's ever so slightly of a cheat that she's in it but I'm not complaining at all, if it were not for her, I wouldn't be watching the American bastardisation of my beloved Strictly

I loved the 'piano faffing' and the bit where he dragged her on stage in full splits.

I thought that the first few seconds of it was amazing!

It seems to me that the us version has always actually trained dancers, not just product of stage school or one week challenge, but proper semi pro training. As a lover of dance, however, it is nice to watch.
