To me he does even when he is smiling!!!

His face when Scott got 39 points 'in the VT Gavin was boasting that he beat Scott and that Scott was the loser out of the male dancers' Priceless

Absolutely not. Quiet, reserved, shy, pefhaps, but NOT miserable.

Alright then Boring. Apart from his physique what else has he got

I think he comes across as having a sweet and sensitive personality. Obviously a loving Dad. A very talented rugby player. Someone who is very masculine and at home in a macho environment who isn't afraid to be himself. Lovely smile, competitive nature, determined......

Though I am not a supporter of Gavin (Kara all the way now!) I don't find him miserable. I thought he looked suitably impressed with Scott's scintillating jive on Saturday!

not miserable, just without humour or charm

Gavin is not miserable.......he is reserved with a very very dry wit and ironic sense of humour......I find him completely endearing and loving him and Katya as a partnership. However you are entitled to your opinion....I just dont happen to share it. A subtle humour like Gavins can be difficult for some people who only recognise irony when its hitting them over the head with a hammer.

Need to be hit over the head to put me out mu misery when watching him

Ditto!

Here's a suggestion, just ignore him or go for your toilet/coffee/tea break when he's on. And don't keep looking for him in the background either. Why trouble yourself so?

No point showing you examples if those cases are supposed to be SUBTLE, isn't it? It's alright to have tiny brain once in a while. Though it's established that we both like Kara, we differ when it comes to Gavin, whom I find rather engaging for some reasons beyond me.

He was on Jonathan Ross way back and poor Jonathan was really struggling to get anywhere with him.. it was painful, like pulling teeth.

I just think he comes across as very vain and reserved. For example when in a VT on ITT Katya told him she loved him, he was clearly mortified and said ' yeh yeh alright' (or words to that effect). He lacks warmth and charm, but then again
to be fair to him, he has made his name playing sport (and by default having 2 kids with CC). Seeing as his main career focus is rugby - amazing social skills, personality or media precesnce are all pretty much irrelevent I guess.

I think he's just macho and can't get out of that mindset. He has taken a long time to come out of his shell but to see him moved by seeing his children again on the screen did prove he's human and not a mute robot.

He could be really good if only he'd loosen up and do like the other sportsmen on here have done. His team-mates will be proud of him if he does well - joking about it is part of it all anyway for all the male celebrities. The ones who throw themselves into it body and soul without a care for how daft they might look, are the ones who do well.

I could give you an example........during the VT before the quickstep he said something along the lines off....that he was born to dance and had obviously missed his calling......then he looks straight at the camera with a look that says ..'taking me seriously.....oh perlease' thats irony....but I expect a lot of people would just see that as delusional like Craig Kelly. He knows exactly where he is in terms of dancing........its frustrates him.....but he isnt delusional about it......yes he wants to be a great dancer and beat Scott and Matt....thats just Gavin he wants to beat everyone and everything.....but he doesnt REALLY believe he is as good as them but he will keep trying whilst people support him, which I will continue to do. I think Gavin is Marmite you either love him or hate him with not much in between. I didnt expect to like him to be honest but he won me over.

His wit is ironic delivered with deadpan expression - and those who don't get irony won't get Gavin.

I prefer subtlety to Ann W's supposed witty gags and the 'aren't I clever' look on her face after delivery. Her habit of pausing whilst waiting for applause is reminiscent of all the worst comedians I've ever seen.

She milks it for all it's worth.- almost daring the audience not to applaud.

I think if you watch him on ITT you might 'get' Gavin more easily.

I do watch ITT, I do think I understand irony and I'm pretty sure I do 'get' Gavin... but charming, witty and warmth... nope I just dont see it (bar the kids moment - ill give you that one).

Uber competative, vain and self absorbed. On 71 degrees north he was exactly the same. Having said all that, I do think he can move quite well. If he let himself go, he could be great.

Having said all that, in a bottom two with Ann, I'd save him every time

Don't watch him then - easy answer! I don't think he's miserable at all - very dry sense of humour all that bragging is done very much tongue in cheek

I thought he was great on 71 degrees North - did you see when they were given ahare to cook? The other guys were hopeless, he skinned and boned it, filleted it, cooked it in some butter, he was so unfazed . And of course, the whole point about the programme was that it was a tough competition - strange then to criticise him for his competitiveness.....

I to expected to be indifferent to Gavin's charms, but he is really growing on me. I really find him funny and pretty brave to kiss Bruno with such gusto - I guess that's rugby players for you!

i know I know I know, I just wish he would cheer up...

In all fairness, Im sure he'd skin and bone, fillet and cook his granny in some butter if it meant he would win. I just get the impression he'd trample on his best mate to win anything.

Bless him.. I dont hate him that much, just prefer the others more I guess.
