Transfering camcorder tapes to pc
redjay
14-11-2010
I have a stack of home movies, 8mm camcorder tapes that I would like to transfer to my pc to edit and burn to dvd.

My old camcorder has packed up so I am intending to borrow one or pick one up cheap on ebay.

Please feel free to correct me from he on if I am incorrect....

Once I am ready to go I will need a cable of some sort to connect the camcorder to the pc - what sort of cable will I need?

Then some software to capture, convert the files and edit the footage (is this right?) - what software? can I get something that will also burn to dvd?

thanks in advance

How many in your stack? If this is going to be a once-only task you may find it cheaper to go to a 'professional' to get them transferred to digital media i.e. DVD from where it will be simple to load them onto your PC if you still want to. I had this same decision a few months ago and decided that it would cost me about £80-£100 to buy the equipment & decent software to do this properly. My local photo shop converts to DVD at £10 a pop so that worked out better.

not the best way but it was basic for me

i had my tapes playing on the camcorder and i recorded them through the dvd recorder to disk.

once on disk copied the disk files to the laptop and converted to .avi or whatever format
