Jon Morter of the Rage Against the Machine campaign fame likes the idea! He put a link to Steve's facebook group on their page and said:

We get hit with tons of 'Xmas No.1' campaigns on here...this one I'm quite happy to post up here as Steve was a huge help last year for us...an X Factor winner vs an X Factor winner?
It's the perfect antidote to Mr C's bilge... great song in its own right, all money raised going to regional homeless charities AND it gets up Mr C's nose and hits him right where it hurts- his ego!!

Have a listen- and if you like it, please join the facebook group and Twitter page and share/retweet:

No. I think he's a bitter ****.

If I had to choose between his and Gamu's, I'd buy hers any day.

No, no, no!

He won. He had his chance.

He comes out of the woodwork every year - yakkety yakkety yak from the moment the first ads go up for X Factor.

Never have thought much of him, he doesn't press any of my buttons....so no.

But in his defence it does seem that it's his record company that have been at fault with the extra-ordinaryly long time between pressing and releasing his latest offering. But then I have to ask what did he do to upset them to the extent they would rather sit on it than genreate revenue.

In a nutshell derbrain- he got done over by Mr C and the X Factory as he didn't want to do karaoke covers all the time and it cost him his contract. He went it alone, but couldn't get a foot in the door to promote his independent stuff so has been writing and producing away from the spotlight and promoting his wife, Eileen Hunter's first album, which was snapped up by Jazz FM, making her their first signing.

It's Eileen he duets with on the song, a great remake of Don't Give Up by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush:

Disgruntled peeps and Steve Brookstain in the same sentence. Who knew!?

And no, I still won't be being it. His wife should have done a solo on something else. It would have raised more for the charity.

Loses a bit of the 'protest' vibe then don't you think?

Such is life. There is more than one contender for the protest vote / song. I'd be more inclined to go with one of those than massage his ego.
