Actually, far cheaper than the dolphin fins, surprisingly enough.
was just interested to know what the price of them would be? Quite high for imported, endangered meat i'd imagine!!! |

It was 2 steaks for £6, but they were frozen so i am going to caserole them for a good couple of hours.
They are from sustained wild siberian stocks. Actually my neices and nephews are coming round in early December so I may wait until then and serve it with a cherry tomato on top! |

Upside = Rudolph (tasty)
Downside = Lidl's Had reindeer several years ago. Seem to recall it's quite salty but you might do a google search on that. |

Reindeer are no more endangered than sheep are, really. They're a staple in the scandanavian countries.

After the fuss in the press about Lidl ruining christmas for the kiddies ( Daily Wail) I popped into mine to have a gander.
Predictably they had sold out - as the checkout guy said "nothing like a bit of press controversy to boost sales" ![]() They still had springbok though - checkout guy said its like a leaner venison, but I still passed up on it. Did get some quail and partridge though as I've not tried cooking them before. Also saw the velvet crabs - I'd be interested to know what you do with them as they look a bit small to treat like normal crab? |

A chap at work bought in some smoked reindeer, it was delicious, very tender and lean.

LMAO the Daily Mail is so ridiculous - an article denouncing Lidl for 'destroying the magic of Christmas by selling dead reindeer' alongside a recipe for reindeer stew from that awful Ramsey bloke. You couldn't make it up.

We were in Northern Norway in February and we went on a husky dog ride. They served up Reindeer soup, followed by reindeer stew and it was really delicious. I have to say that I could not have eaten reindeer before, but we were starving in Norway as it is so expensive to eat out. Now I am pleased we tried it as I would definately eat it again. As for the taste, it was well cooked with loads of vegetables and hard to distinguish it from beef in texture. The soup and stew were really strong and tasty.
