I want to use one of the large collection of tones I have stored on my laptop for sms alert tone on my wildfire phone.
Right, I know how to get them on there and found this info .

on you sd card, there is a folder called media open it, then there are a folder called audio open it and there is a folder called notif. open it and put all you tones for sms and so on in it then you can use it for sms/mms and e-mail
But like someone on the forum I didn't have the files on my sd card and had to create them, like this...
create that here:

Sdcard/Media/Audio/alarms

Sdcard/Media/Audio/notifications

Sdcard/Media/Audio/ringtones

Put a few tones on the card but still can't get to set them as sms tone only ringtone..

just put the files in the notifications folder u create then u choose settings/sound and display settings/notification ringtone, there u should find the custom ringtones you added

depending if you use the stock sms program or one from the android market u need to open the sms program and select the ringtone from there
