Delgado by a long way.

He is the Master.

Ainley was good but suffered with some of the material he had to work with.

Simm, because the Doctor and Master supposed to be two sides of the same coin.

The Doctor is a happy, helpful bonkers.
The Master is a dangerous, maniac bonkers.

I'm not sure quite how that makes Simm closer to the ideal than any of the others-or, for that matter, that 'bonkers' was ever really a requirement (it's not a description I'd apply to all the previous Doctors, or to the original Master). The character was created to be the Moriarty to the Doctor's Holmes, and Simm never really convinced me as being that.

the original was the best

though I loved Jacobi's 5 minute version too, way more interesting that John Simms version.

I felt JS wasn't given good material to work with, it was like he was given the direction "ok, just be as hammy as you like with it"

Delgado IS the Master

But I couldn't help thinking that Jacobi would have been wonderful if he had the chance. his five minutes was menacing enough to undermine everything John Simm did, although I think that was more down to the scripts Simm had to work with.

Maybe the "bonkers" was a reference to the "madman with a blue box" but I've never thought of the Doctor as bonkers, more of a British eccentric hence the uniquely British nature of the show itself.

I quite liked the callous disregard for life but JS never quite got the quiet menace (or was never told to play it) that Delgado and to a lesser extent Ainley got (and for those who think Ainley was all "ham" have another look, he could do menace when he was allowed to!)

I'm sure there are Laws that forbid the crossing of Poster Streams, typical of those two to flaut them in the name of incisive contribution

Glad you're both back: a nice present for DW day

I personally thought Simm did a brilliant bit of acting in TEOT, even though they had kind of lost the plot a bit with the charactor of the Master. I thought they were all good. Jacobi felt more closer to Delgrado than Simm.

I agree, I loved Jacobi's short-lived version because it reminded me so much of Delgado. I can imagine him reacting the same way in the same situation. Humour-wise, Delgado had a lot more but there again he had several stories to develop it whilst Jacobi had only a few minutes.
