I have a DMR-EX768EBK recorder, a just-bought TX-L37S20B TV, an old Panny Sky digibox (no HDMI socket) and an oldish Philips DVD player (no HDMI).

Following the TV manual, I have set up as follows:
Digibox to recorder (Scart)
Digibox to TV AV2 (Scart)
Recorder to TV AV1 (Scart)
Recorder to TV HDMI 1 (HDMI)
DVD to TV AV3 (composite video)

Is there any drawback to having just the following:

Digibox to TV AV2 (or 1) (Scart)
Recorder to TV HDMI 1 (HDMI)
DVD to TV AV1 (or 2) (Scart)

In other words, what purpose is served
(a) by linking the digibox and the recorder
(b) by using both Scart and HDMI to link the recorder and the TV?

Have got a 768 myself and a Panny TV.

a) By linking Digibox to recorder it gives you opportunity to record from it. I have my Digibox connected to AV2 on 768 and AV2 on TV. This stops the autoswitching when 768 turns on. (My TV autoswitches on AV1) thus AV2 will show digibox when 768 is off or selected to its AV2 tuner.

b) By linking HDMI you get upscaled pictures from 768. Mine is to HDMI 3 avoiding autoswitching on HDMI 1.

I have other equipment connected using up all scart & HDMI connections as well as component.

Using a WII on AV1 and a HD DVD player on HDMI 1, so autoswitching only happens when I want it to.

Suggest you connect digibox RF 1 to TV. You can then also view it on an analogue channel.

Is the TV a Panny too? I think you'll find you need the scart connection to the recorder to be able to use the instant record facility using the TV remote control. Not sure but I think some of the viera link functions work via SCART not HDMI but might stand corrected there.
