Hi, I was wondering if anyone saw this as Ive just watched it. What did you think? IŽd love to have been around to witness Ena Sharples, is it true that Violet Carson disliked her character so much?

A truly fantastic production with spot-on performances, it deserved a wider audience then the 842,000 viewers it got on BBC4 Jessie Wallace was majestic as the fiery legend Pat Phoenix

I also enjoyed Jessie's performance. Why was it pigeon holed in BBC4? Not everyone can get it.

She made Pat come alive again.

I agree. I'm hoping they'll repeat it on one of the mainstream channels to tie in with Corrie's anniversary celebrations next month.

The Road to Coronation Street was excellent and should have been shown on mainstream BBC1. Jessie Wallace was fantastic as Pat Phoenix and Lynda Barron was amazing as the sharp tongued Violet Carson aka Ena Sharples.

I wouldnt mind watching it again - pity its no longer on iPlayer.

It was a BBC production and BBC4 screens those sort of biopics all the time so it was a natural home for it. Anybody with DTT can get BBC Four which is the majority of the country nowadays.

I enjoyed Jessie Wallace far better as Pat Pheonix than I have as Kat Slater.

Have to agree, i was one of the millions of people who instantly went "she'll be ****" (fit whatever word you like in there as an insult)
She was awesome. Really was, just shows how she can really act when given the script.

I sky+ this and put the lock thingy on it so no one can delete it on me lol..

It was a really good show and the characters were very true to life Im old enough to remember Corry from when it first started. Ena and Mr Swindly and Emily and Ken when he had a really posh accent not a bit like he was suppose to be from Salford lol.

Pity it wasnt shown on ITV it would have got much higher ratings.

It was commissioned and produced by ITV studios so theres no reason why it couldnt have gone on ITV1, perhaps in a Sunday night slot??

It was a stunning piece of television.

How can ITV commission a drama for the BBC? Someone at ITV must not have wanted it if the BBC got offered the programme.....but the BBC must have commissioned it themselves after being offered it by ITV studios (a corporate arm of the ITV network)... WHICH would indicate ITV (the network) turned down the chance to broadcast it themselves so therefore did NOT commission it.. a channel such as the ITV does not commission shows for its rival, such as the BBC. All network channels commission their own programmes.

depends on what you mean by commission because of the top of my head...

Come Dine With ME
The Street
What The Papers Say (alright that's ended now)

are progs that are made by ITV for other channels

anyway Road To... was probably one of the best programmes I've seen all year. I'm so glad I recorded off my pc, it deffo deserves another airing on a more mainstream channel

She was geniunely fantastic in Eastenders, long, long ago.

During the 'you ain;t my muvvah!' reveal and it's aftermath she was superb.

Sadly, sticking her uber-pillock Shane Richie seems to have dragged her down. I was so pleased that she was so good in TRTCS. Completely wasted in the current OMG! Eastenders.

I agree, in her first stint in EE she was outstanding I'm glad she showed what a fantastic actress she is in TRTCS.

She's not exactly had great material to work with in EE as of recent although I'm confident after hearing of the upcoming storylines she will have a chance to shine again.

Jessie Wallace aside I also enjoyed the whole programme from start to finish. I'm not old enough to remember most of the characters unfortunately but I found it really interesting to see how the show came together and I definately think it should have ben shown on more than just BBC4

I'm in the minority but I really wished Kat had stayed with Anfernee

there was gonna be a big love-triangle storyline between Zoe/Ant/Kat, but that went all tits up when Michelle had her relationship problems

Kat & Ant never happened,
then Jessie got suspended,
Kat had her goodbye scene with Alfie (which sparked something in writers)
then she came back, eventually hooked up with Alfie

Urmm.. the love triangle did happen It took up the whole of 2002 Anfernnee flicked between zoe and kat, got back together with kat for a few months and got her pregnant. She then had a miscarraige which was what they used as her exit for her suspension. Then she came back hooked on Alfie.

Anferneee was supposed to marry zoe but that's what changed because of michelle's relationship problems thankgod!!

Sorry for the off-topicness guys

I was glad it was on BBC - it was so much more enjoyable than having it broken up with adverts.

Yeah I agree with this! Would have liked to have seen it on bbc 2 or even bbc1 though as I'm sure MANY more people would have watched

okay maybe my recollection of events is poor, I never felt the love triangle happened because Ant & Zoe never married.

Zoe was off screen for ages, it didn't feel of proper storyline

anyway apologies for dragging this thread off topic

Road to Coronation Street is brilliant, buy it on dvd if it's not repeated - well worth it
