river song has been one of the best characters since the show came back. she and alex kingston are both great

having said that i want her role resolved in the next series, i dont want it to take over and become the 'river song show', do you know what i mean?

Just think of the mid series cliffhanger if the Doctor, Amy and Rory land on a planet and hear that River Song is there but when they meet her it's an older looking Karen Gillan playing her.”

Nah, Moffat and Karen Gillan talked about that in the Time of Angels commentary and he's very clearly said that River is not a) the Doctor's mum because, well, ewwww and b) not Amy as she'd need to shrink a foot and change pretty much every aspect of her body structure not to mention hair colour.

I think she is a time lord of some description. I would love if she was an incarnation of the Master that keeps hopping around time to avoid capture and tries to stay close to the Doctor as cover. but i think that's my imagination running away with myself!

I wouldn't be too disappointed if this were the case, but personally I hope it turns out she someone/something related to the Doctor that hasn't been seen or heard of before.

I would like River to become new Doctor Who mythology. It's all very well pandering to the fanbase already there, but what about creating new myths for the future Who fans? I think SM is quite likely to do something like that.

He's already created some iconic monsters himself, and they could be back in future incarnations of Doctor Who, so why not create a character that would have people in another 47 years saying: "That new woman, Qxytlkj. I bet she's really River in disguise", in much the same way that people want the Master back now, or the Rani (though god only knows why they want her back...)?

She said that soon he'll find out the truth, and that'll change things, but that would still imply that he travels with her for a long time after he finds out the truth.

Of course, she could always be lying about having travelled with him at all...

You are totally right and if anybody is going to bring a genuine mythology to the new series, they have the right man in SM.

I just love the Master!!

Im starting to think that maybe she is a confidance trickster? she has the criminal know how and the one reason why the doctor would give his real name......on trial perhaps with the time lords ( i know this has already been done but things have changed in the new who universe) maybe she either acts in his defence or against him...he did look worried when she said she knew.

i think it could be quite a nice twist....and bring back the time lords especially after what he did at the end of tennants run! he may even go back to defend the master and she is there and uses the trail as some leverage

crazy and bonkers and will never happen but hay who thought it was wilf

I like the River Song Character but I'm starting to get annoyed that with every appearance there's another mystery added to the mysteries from previous appearances so that with every new little thing I'm starting to find myself getting bored with it.

That's not to say I'm not enjoying it but I hope it is resolved next Series, for it to go on and would just be annoying and tedious in the extreme.

I'd say 1 hr 23 mins to be precise , she gets it in the 2nd episode of series 6. Just after she shoots the Doctor.

Wow you just described the entire tv show of Lost :O
I think SM has a plan that will span however long he intends to run the show. He might leave it open; it is suggested she knows the Doctor for many incarnations, but I think he'll want to tell her full story himself.
