Baklava

Has anyone ever tried Baklava? I'm desperate for some at the moment, it is so yummy! I'm tempted to make some of my own, but I have neither the ingredients or the money to buy ingredients ooh but it's lush.

Waitrose sell it on the cake counter and yeah it's yum

I found it less sweet than the stuff I had in Greece, which is odd, I'd have thought the opposite.

It keeps your face lovely and warm in winter.

My closest Waitrose is 60 miles away still, the journey would be worth it for some baklava

I had some in Egypt and am guessing their VERY liberal use of sugar is similar to Greece. Boy was it sweet!

The stuff you get here has a lot less sugar in it.

I love baklava and I make my own from time to time.

Yes, it's sweet, but a little piece goes a long way.

Don't buy it from the supermarkets it is way too dry. Baklava needs to be moist.

It's my fave dessert - I adore it!!!

I wouldn't dream of trying to make it though as it may spoil the perfection!

I buy mine from a little Turkish Deli, the one's you find in supermarkets don't always look that nice

God I love it ... which is weird because I don't particularly like honey and I hate all nuts ...

But some Baklava with a Greek coffee ... not much beats that. I get mine from a local Greek deli. Never tried it from the supermarket. But it doesn't match to most of the stuff you get in Greece.

We have a Turkish stall on the weekly market, but it's only in our holiday season, which is March to October

I saw Rachel Allen making this on her show the other week, link below:

I'm not a massive fan as its a bit sweet for me but this looked fairly straight forward!

Absolutely love Baklava. M&S used to do a good selection, but they stopped doing it :/

In our local weekly market, there's usually one or two Turkish bakers' stalls where I can get it from. I buy it only rarely though. It's nice but very, very rich.

I've made baklava, it's yummy, but very sweet, so you can only eat a little. From what I can remember, if you go to an Asian foodstore, where I bought my ingredients, you'll pay a darn lot less than your local supermarket, all you need is a bag of shelled pistachio nuts, rose syrup and from what I can remember, I think it was orange syrup..then the usual, butter and filo pastry. Can't remember the exact recipe, but it was one an arab lady gave me.

As you can see a few of the ingredients differ from Rachel Allen's recipe.

I had some on Saturday at my sister's house, I say some but only 1 piece. It was delicious.

My mum got it from Costco for her, so I've l placed an order with my mother!

I've bought Costco's Baklava, it's a big tray of various flavours and they were all delicious, then I read the calorie count and nearly had a canary fit. Costco needs to do a smaller box.

I promise not to read the back when I get it!

I had the little barrel shaped one..mmm. My sis saved me a triangle shaped one but I forgot to get it. There were a lot of guests at my sis's house over the weekend so I didn't want to appear greedy!

Damn!

Same here. All the food was gorgeous - managed to put on nearly a stone in weight during a 2 week holiday
