Watching the "discussion" with Linford the other night Stacey was articulate, intelligent, serious, and dare I say it normal.

And yet when she goes in the bush telegraph or when Ant and Dec/the cameras are definitely on her she goes OTT - the expressive hands, the facial expressions, the silly voice, the dim but cute act.

I thought the same when she was on X-Factor.Is it a ditzy act? If so it could work.

I don't really care what is or isn't "real". I can be one or t'other person too, a well-spoken, educated, almost cultured person or a complete blinding swearing oink, depending on what mood I'm in. I think Catherine Tate is similar, just makes a living out of her alter ego (whereas mine simply allows me to blend in down at the job centre!). I bet Stacey's the same too! Either way, I like her. Well, love her to bits for a fact and I hope she wins.

I think she's a sweetheart!
Plus, I don't see that much alteration in the way she speaks .. I think we all alter to some extent, depending on whether we are joking around or being serious.

I like her, she does sound like a Peggy on Hi-de-hi when she gets excited but I think she is genuine. I too have a "telephone voice" when trying to speak clearly to people at times but can babble to. I hope she goes far in the comp.

I agree. I can't stand her when she overdoes the silly voice, but when she is "normal" I find her ok. Still not enough to win though

She's great. And very real. Love her.

I think she's my fave at the moment. I don't think she even considers herself a 'celebrity' which is refreshing to watch in comparison to the ego that is Linford Christie!

I've been watching out for this with her. I think she is self-conscious when she is aware the cameras are on her and so the gushy breathlessness is due to anxiety.

I still think she's lovely. She's sensitive, funny and really sweet. What's not to like?

You can't really compare the two. One was Olympic champion, the other runner up on X Factor. World class sprinting isn't for humble types I'm afraid.

Its a false distinction. She's always articulate and she makes narrow distinctions when she chooses her words - listen to her with Ant and Dec drawing distinctions between going to and wanting to, and how she can chip in what they are going to say next before they say it. If you ask her a question that requires some thought, you get thought and it comes out very quickly. If she reacts you get a reaction which sounds more girly with nonverbal support thats also girly. The accent stays the same throughout, the purpose of the communication shapes whats said. Its perfectly consistent.

She's got real ability to change her accent when she's singing to whats appropriate for the song - she can sound American or get near to RP English if its needed. A lot of good singers and West End stars can do that when they otherwise have strong regional or Irish accents, but it takes a lot of ability. You wouldn't expect her though to go around pretending to be another character from somewhere else in her everyday life, so she stays with her own local accent there. If she happened to come from Yorkshire or Wales no one would dare even mention her accent, but as she's from Dagenham, it may give her a problem with shallower voters.

She is definitely putting on the voice, and if it dupes people into voting for her then good on her, I don't dislike the girl and she seems nice enough, there are quite a few in there who are non entities such as aggro and Sheryl who wouldn't be missed if they left.
Stacy definitely deserves to stay longer than those, but the dipsy character she puts on is grating

Agreed.

I think she's doing a tried and tested Stacey. It worked on X Factor for her, so why not do it again on IAC?

The problem of course is that we have no live feed to find out if she really is putting it on. So in that respect, ITV have their ready made bookies winner.

I think she becomes nervous when she knows she has to speak (on camera). I really don't think Stacey is playing up to the camera.

You are right, I think she is putting on the voice as well and it is grating after a while...however she isn't as bad as that awful Mc Keith woman!!! :P

I never saw her in X factor and i was disappointed when i read it because i had figured that all she needed was to watch herself on TV to realise what a mistake the dumb act is.Half the time you can`t even really make out what she is saying, which is annoying because when you can she`s pretty funny.

I think she needs a massive confidence boost and to figure out what to do with herself in front of the camera because despite the fact that what she`s doing now doesn`t look like it`s at all her, she`s really likeable in front of it.

Once again she is perfectly articulate when arguing with Dom about HELLO magazine. Dare I say it? Even intelligent.

But when she goes into the bush telegraph she goes into dingbat overdrive with silly voice and moving hands.

A performance?

Yes, that's my take on it. If she dropped the act (which she definitely doesn't need,) I'd want her to win.

Best post on this thread imo.

I love Stacey btw, she's like a female Shaun, knows what to say, when to say it, and most importantly how to say it without hurting anyones feelings

Very true. I love her and I think her accent and her mannerisms are perfectly natural for a girl from Dagenham. I don't get why people think she's putting it on.

I don't think she's being false. Its being overly cynical because she's never acted in a way that showed she wasn't being genuine when she was on XF or IAC so far.
