Just watched this again on Youtube and she looks totally bored during the performance. She either didn't understand the song at all or just didn't try to connect with it. She looked like she wanted to be somewhere else during the entire number. Yet if you want a performance of Imagine to be a success you have to feel the lyrics and believe the words you are singing about.

Cher did neither which is why this performance failed something epic.

I agree. But then again she rarely connects with a song. Just going through the motions.

A 17 year old brat trying to sing 'Imagine' with zero musicality or capability of connecting with the lyrics of a song. It was atrocious.

pmsl!

Sorry, Cher sounded like a strangled cat who was impersonating Dolly Parton. It was horrendous.

Absolutely appalling. She warbled her way through it as if she were singing any old shite.

Anyone over 15 who likes that performance needs a mental health check. SHE RUINED an iconic classic song. i like chers voice usually but what the hell was she doing last night. all over the place sounded horrific. awful her worst performance so far.

That's fairly harsh, I think it was just a terrible mis-step for her. The performance was terribly insincere though, definitely. Of course, her mentor probably understood the song about as well as Cher herself did, so the whole thing was never really going to work. I'm sure like-minded teens will think it was good because they also didn't get the song. I generally hate when simple songs are given the vocal gymnastic makeover, and that was a pretty stupid mistake to take one of the simplest and most powerful songs and Aguilera it up.

She looked very very young in that outfit. More like a little teenage schoolgirl.

It did suit her though. But not exactly the right kind of image (or age really) to portray that iconic song.

Of course it was because anyone who dares to cover a Beatles or Lennon song is automatically awful.

Yeah...

Cher sang it better than John Lennon.

Yes; there was a thread yesterday evening and someone said "It's a John Lennon song, and he was a Beatle, so to me it's a Beatles song". I pointed out that it was like saying "In the air tonight" is a Genesis song when in fact it's a Phil Collins song.

What irritates me is that if she were anyone's contestant except Cheryl's, Simon would have banged on about cheating and bending the rules.
