518,601 copies

Therefore they dont beat Oasis' Be Here Now which sold 700,000 copies first week and remains best selling album in its first week still

Demolished their previous sales for the Circus, just as I predicted. Was it enough to beat Coldplay?

Oh and btw, Oasis sold 696000 in the first three days before it became number 1.

In the current sales climate compared to 1997, I think Take That's sales are even more impressive than Oasis, even if they are less.

I've already said what I think of the Oasis album, but I disagree with that in one sense, as internet sales would have hardly contributed to that first-week total (if at all?), whereas TT will have reaped the benefits of it. I do think it's impressive that that many people actually went out to buy a physical album.

Who cares? Some albums have sold just 5,000 copies but are better than some of the biggest sellers.

I think all the sales from the albums and tour has proved just what a massive act they are despite the state of the economy!

I am suprised with the top 10

westlife at no 10 - just shows they are sh!t and no one wants to hear their music anymore.

TT - no 2 - good effort but think everyone thought they would be no1 with Robbie coming back.

and

JSL god they are becoming the untimate new boyband with a few no1s under their belt.

Not really, Oasis managed it in 3 days.

Westlifes fanbase has certainly dwindled but they might still sell alot of albums.

The Flood didn't deserve to be a number 1 single though so Im happy it never made it.

But the thing is the singles chart is starting to matter less and less now. People care more about the album sales these days. Especially considering acts there that can sell albums without a single to promote it!

Oasis sales would not have been affected by illegal downloading. So although Take That sold 518k, the actual number of people who 'own' the album will be far higher, and even more than Oasis sales figures of 700k.

Westlife's biggest first week sale was back in 2000 with a total of 234,767. Anyone who claims they are bigger than Take That are just kidding themselves!

But were we in a recession then? NO! Take That fans (me included) go out of their way to find money to buy tickets and albums the moment they are sale!

I said this in another thread, but if Be Here Now was released in today's climate, I doubt it would of sold half as much as it did back in 1997

To be honest, while there is still the issue of illegal downloads, it isn't a much as problem as it was when it started a few years back and even then Take That fans are more likely to buy it legally!

And a completely irrelevant point anyway

According to BBC News: "The Official Charts Company said it sold almost 520,000 albums - more than the rest of the top 10 put together."

So, a total failure then eh?

How on earth is that irrelevant? It couldn't be more relevant, when you look at the albums market today compared with 13 years ago.

You didn't even say why you disagree or why you think it's irrelevant, although I get the feeling you're shouting that comment just because of who said it, but oh well, just saying

You've not been banned yet then
lol There'll probably another attempt soon...
