If we all work together we can take iceland and their cheap garbage ads, "food" down. Too long has it blighted us.

Which nutritional requirements?

Are we not better off starting with Farmfoods.

I mean who actually eats that stuff?

Their:

Quote:
“420g Italian Style Mediterranean Vegetable Pizza

Italian style stonebaked pizza, topped with tomato and cheese sauce, grated mozzarella cheese, grilled red and yellow peppers, grilled courgettes, spinach and red onions.”

which I sometimes buy is very healthy, and also may I add delicious.

I doubt that the amount of vegetables on that would even equate to one of your five a day. What's the calorie and fat content in it?

What about Tesco and Asda?

Its 90% processed food. Proper ingredients like seeds etc are now classed as health foods and thus prohibitively expensive.

Its bizarre when apples can be as expensive as factory farmed pig meat. (pork)

But then what would the poorer people do ?

Iceland are there for a reason and its so the lower classes can eat.

Farmfoods sells plenty of good things.

It sells branded items consistently cheaper than the other supermarkets, ie Pepsi is always on 2x2l for £1.50, and their tinned tomatoes and frozen vegetables, like onions and peas are just as good as the main supermarkets, and unlike for example Asda who have Tinned tomatoes around 58p, Farmfoods are always on 4 for £1.

Sure some of their "own brand" frozen items may look a bit crap, but some of it is pretty good. Their LA Diner range is better than Tesco's own frozen range, and cheaper too, their chicken bites are proper chicken chunks, not processed. Even their worst Items I doubt are any worse than Tesco Value range. Everything in that range is pure vile.

Agree Farmfoods is much better than Iceland.

Although I do agree with this ( I am a bit of a bargain hunter and go to a lot of different shops to get the best price I can find) Iceland also do some good bargains - they are selling Coke 3l bottles at 1.66 each which is cheaper than most of the shops I have found. So got a few of these put away for Christmas (Morrison doing well with the BOGTF deals at the moment too for people stocking up on snacky foods for Christmas)

This is an example though. £5 for 3 bottles of sugared water

I'm equally to blame, of course

We all (ie lots of us) spend loads on stuff that is no good for us. Chocolate/Processed Foods/Crisps and snacks/Coke/Takeaways etc etc

Supermarkets make it easy for us to spend money on rubbish. Even "health-ish" foods are full of extra sugar and salt.

If we all stuck to healthy foods we would be fitter, and spend a lot less.

You are not equally to blame, the same as I am not to blame. I eat food I enjoy and if I eat food in moderation and I lead a healthy lifestyle then I am happy. I am not forcing others to eat food I like, but I am healthy as a horse, with the exception of my hearing going

So you're willing to bet (have no evidence then) that Iceland's food is 'below nutritional requirements'? What does that even mean?

But what of it? Even Waitrose/M&S/Your corner shop sells food that by itself, may not be nutritionally wonderful, but as part of a balanced diet are ok in moderation.

I don't much like Iceland either, but I simply don't shop there. Voting with your feet is enough.

Below nutritional requirements ?
I'd say fat, sugar and salt contents would be higher than the requirements.

Why single out Iceland, though ? I'm sure you have the same in any supermarket - ready made food section.

Bit of a stereotype. A girl that I work with lives in chiswick and shops in Iceland, purely because they often sell branded products far cheaper than other supermarkets. I certainly wouldn't classify her as 'poor'.

I meant that I spend a fair amount on useless calories, buying stuff I know I don't really need.

It doesn't exactly promote healthy eating but I buy and consume a lot of rubbish from the supermarkets...

I'd rather go to Farmfoods than Iceland myself - recently I needed to stock up on Quorn and shopped around - Farmfoods had the same brand as everywhere else but cheaper - I bought 4 packs and would have paid £2 more at Iceland.

I don't buy ready meals, pizza or icecream these days though, so to be fair, it is rare I go to those places, since they have a lot of those.

If you compare Tesco and Asda ingredients to the Aldi and Lidl stuff you might immediately cease buying them.

The value stuff can be worse but the main stuff is as often as not factory lab stuff too.
