Hmmm - not a massive fan of punk myself.. I can enjoy the older stuff but never bought anything, and not keen on the latest 'skate' punk. So I'll say:

As I said though, I dont really have an oppinion in such matters... as for 'Other Rock'.. that quite a vague term.. so...

Some class them as punk - some don't. If you don't add, either Greenday, Sublime or Rancid.

2)Best punk SONG: Lithium by Nirvana

Well there was lots of contenders for that one, 'When I Come Around' by Greenday, 'Timebomb' Rancid both were up there.

3)Best other rock BAND: Limp Bizkit

As perviously stated a bit of a vague catogery. Other bands could of included; Korn, Oasis, Papa Roach.

4)Best other rock SONG: Breakstuff by Limp Bizkit

Other tracks may of included, Live Forever by Oasis, Last Resort by Popa Roach, Eagles Hotel California.

5)Best punk song THIS YEAR : Sum41 Fat Lip

the band north mississippi allstars is good.

They are grunge, a subset of punk so your ok to put them there in my opinion.

I see grunge as more a subset of metal - hence why many metal fans got into grunge.

I don't see how people refer to the likes of Offspring, Sum 41 and Blink 182 as punk either - these are metal bands.

Don't get me wrong - I like and have CD's by both the Offspring and Blink 182, I just don't see them as punk.

Punk was more about rebellion against the system, anger against oppression - can't really compare with Blink singing about wanting to f**k their dog!

Richard, i know where you're coming from. And i think you're right to an extent. But, there's two different types of punk - this is why people get confused.

You're obviously referring to the late 70's type of punk, Sex Pistols etc etc.

The other type of punk is the kind grown in west coast America. Bands such as Blink 182, Offspring etc.

I still don't know why these types of bands are branded 'punk'. The music don't even sound the same as the late 70's 'punk'.

I prefer America's version of punk though(but i do the late 70's/early 80's stuff a lot). I guess the early version of punk as the right to claim what punk is and what it stands for. Although, i think it's widely accepted these days that heavy rock guitars mixed with melody is punk.
