Anyone know when O2 are going to release the long awaited 2.1 upgrade for the X10 Mini?

I would guess it is 1.6 as I've seen posts recently in various forums moaning that Vodafone are dragging their feet over releasing the upgrade.

I've got an x10 mini pro (on O2) and upgraded the via the Sony Ericsson site last weekend. They are the ones responsible for the software rather than the operator.

Just register (if you haven't already), follow the instructions, connect up your phone and it'll upgrade.

DO make sure you back everything up first and be prepared to reload every app you have afterwards! Fortunately the new OS backs up apps too so that won't happen next time. The new OS is quite different in subtle ways, but getting used to it.

I was already aware of that fact but thanks for responding anyway.

You are strictly supposed to wait for the Network Operator rather than the Mobile Manufacturer to supply the approved upgrade. If I had bought an unbranded X10 Mini from CPW then I would have done the same as you. I understand that the upgrade O2 issue for a PAYG X10 Mini will not be the same as an upgrade for a Contract X10 Mini. In your case you have upgraded your X10 Mini Pro with an Unbranded Release.

It's a minefield so I don't want to bugger up the mobile with the wrong firmware.

Apologies for stating what you already knew but you didn't say you knew.

For what it's worth, mine's a PAYG phone with an O2 contact SIM in it. I've had SEs for years and I was prompted to update the software automatically - was that by SE or O2?

Must be O2 because SE wouldn't know the phone was active

I'm talking rubbish....it's just a Sony Ericsson URL embedded in the firmware

Took the plunge. Downloaded SEUS (not PC Companion) and used that to install Android 2.1.

Didn't take long and worked first time.

I have a x10 mini pro sim free with orange sim.

It upgraded to 2.1 first time I connected to companion, however my girlfriends x10 mini locked on orange has not upgraded yet.

Is this because orange have upgraded the pro only or is it because it's an unlocked phone?

Download SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and try that. It's a very user friendly piece of software. This whole "can I upgrade yet" situation is the totally the fault of the Network Operators.

This link suggests you can go ahead:
