My predictions:
SCD: 11m - this is definitely going to be down from last week's 12m due to the earlier slot and no Widdy left in it. In the week when it finished relatively early due to the Festival of Remembrance, it had 10.7m, I think it'll rate quite similar to that figure, perhaps slightly higher due to it being the semi final. JLS: 4.5m - Cheryl's Night In in the pre-TXF final slot had 5m so I expect this to rate worse considering JLS aren't as "big" a name as Cheryl and also it's airing one hour earlier against a stronger SCD than last year. TXF: 14m - I am not expecting much of a boost for TXF tonight compared to last Saturday; the big boost will happen tomorrow. Last year's final Saturday show rated the same as the semi final Saturday show. Also 7pm is the earliest start for TXF this series which might catch some people out. TMO: 6.5m - the highest rating for this in the first series was 5.1m. I believe TXF boosts shows around it by 15-25% so assuming it's a 25% boost I think it'll be in the mid 6's, however I wouldn't be surprised with a low 7's result. As for JLS - surely it would have done better tomorrow night at 6.30pm. |

This is they key one for ITV (apart from the obvious X Factor figures). Its interesting that in the US the Superbowl lead in usually goes to a 2nd season show rather than a brand new show. Interesting that ITV are copying this approach with the UK's Superbowl.

Friday 10th December Overnights
BBC One (inc. HD) 19:00- The One Show: 5.15m (22.8%) 19:30- A Question of Sport: 3.64m (15.2%) 20:00- EastEnders: 9.17m (37.9%) 20:30- QI: 3.85m (15.0%) 21:00- Strictly Come Dancing: 8.48m (33.4%) * series low 22:00- BBC News At Ten: 5.88m (26.7%) 22:25- BBC Regional News: 5.66m (27.6%) 22:35- The Graham Norton Show: 3.77m (22.7%) * all time high QI was a million down, but still a great rating up against Corrie's big week. Otherwise, everything else was strong. The One Show, Ten O'Clock News and Graham Norton all doing exceptionally. Yes, SCD's 9m or thereabouts (once officials come in) is below-par but still brilliant numbers for that slot. Quote:
You are so sadly desperate aren't you - I don't recall the Corrie fans being as bitter as we've seen from some of the EE lot this week, but then again, why would they be of something of such little significance.

The only bad thing against X Factor is earlier timeslot, but for it is that there's no Merlin and only a Wipeout repeat and Casualty to compete with.

TXF will get 17 million tonight, possibly peaking at 19 million for the last 15 minutes. You really have to go back to the early eighties for ratings like this on a Saturday or even if it gets 20 million, the golden BBC1 era in the late seventies.

The Corrie birthday week has been a resounding ratings and critical success for ITV (but let's be honest, if Corrie's ratings hadn't shot up it would have been a major ![]() ![]() ) but I still reckon that, deep deep down, ITV will be a little disappointed not to have beaten EE's live episode audience (though they have may have been resigned to the belief they weren't going to.) At the end of the day, when we look back to 2010 TV in the future the ratings that will be most remembered won't be a programme's average figure, but its highest. If they revived Philip Schofield's series Television's Greatest Hits in 2020, the programme on 2010 will show eastenders above Corrie (unless Corrie pulls in a record timeshift audience). But will it beat X Factor? That's the next big question. |

It will fill its boots as a result - 16m tonight. Easy. |

Why - because it attracts a decent audience and dents the 8.30 Corrie?
1) its dumbed down on BBC1 2) its going to kill the show a lot quicker so it will end up being a casualty in your war on ITV

SCD 10.5m (on far too early, off too early to get the usual benefit of the big peaks it gets post 7pm, and totally overshadowed by the other big show on tonight) TXF 16m - benefits from BBC1 not turning up. Like one of those nights in the late seventies when either BBC1 or ITV was on strike and trash like Sale of the Century got 23m. TMO 9.6m - key is to how quickly the TXF audience melts away. |

Have we got another example of ITV taking inspiration from BBC1?
Compare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEpn6SEi92Y with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j8sLbigj1w Uncanny isn't it... ?

BBC1 raises the white flag in an hour from now. TXF has a complete free run this year, both nights.
It will fill its boots as a result - 16m tonight. Easy. Also, It has to be said that the commercial business ITV has also thrown in the towel against big BBC1 shows next weekend. Against the Strictly Final results show on Saturday the umpteenth showing of Bridget Jones' Diary. Against the Apprentice Final on Sunday they're gone for David Suchet On The Orient Express, originally, IIRC, scheduled for their Tuesday night flop-zone. (I gather the programme was mainly commissioned just to help David Suchet get back into the part of Poirot. ITV seem to have made a bit more effort against the Strictly Final performance programme - The Cube celebrity special, The Cube having a proven record in holding a healthy audience against Strictly on a Sunday. Although as the celebrities featured are Joe Swash and Kelly Osbourne - maybe this is another exercise in towel-throwing. |

ITV should have given Atonement a shot at 9pm next Sunday rather than playing it out after the news. It was very well received IIRC when it was released. |

Some people seem to think this week's Corrie ratings aren't very good. Bearing in mind the amount of channels on offer and the fact some of the show's viewers have died out, 14 million is excellent for the live episode and 13 million is still very good for the tram crash. Yes EE is a more popular show, so its live episode got 16 million viewers, but Corrie did extremely well. Also the curiosity and nostalgia value will have helped.

Predictions??
I remember Take Me Out starting out ata round 3.6m and then hitting highs of 5.2m. So i reckon 5.3m for Take Me Out. Around 11.8m for Strictly and 15.7m for X Factor. |

Also the main body of the show was done by 6.50 and the last ten mins was filled with recaps and a live Take That performance. Stupid decision by BBC1 to split it over 2 nights instead of having one 1h30m show tonight with both dances and the knock-out group dance. TMO will clearly not be plumbing the depths of 5.3m tonight. The testcard would average 6m in the 9-10pm slot tonight. |

There really is no point in BBC1 competing hard against one of the biggest TV events of the year. And, as I said before, it is not the BBC's job to try and damage ITV.
