That would be a great idea. Next Autumn in the post-XF Sunday slot they should have 7 episodes of Downton Abbey, 4 eps of IAC (the final being on Sunday) and then the Downton Abbey Christmas special after TXF final. TXF final next year is one week later than this year so a Xmas special of DA would be quite fitting in that slot as it'll be quite close to Xmas Day.

you guys just keep thinking that viewers will just sit and automatically watch what comes on next. If you applied your logic viewers would never go to bed, go out, eat, have sex, etc.

Maybe this is how it is in your house, but its not the situation in most normal homes!

Elf and Dirty Dancing seem to one of the few films that do well every year, same for The Wizard of Oz.

Apple had 2 ads for the iPhone (on Vodafone) on Saturday and an iTunes ad for The Beatles also on Saturday.

Sony - who are co-owners of Syco - shelled out for ads for Burlesque (50 seconds), Michael Jackson (30 seconds), Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3 (30 seconds) plus they had the ad right after the end of the results show for the Sony NEX Camera (30s)and one at the end of Saturdays show for Olly Murs (30s).

Retailers bought many of the slots, it seems. In addition to John Lewis & M&S, Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's, WH Smith, Argos, Halfords, Boots, Carphone Warehouse, Sports Direct, Iceland and The Co-Op all featured.

Fashion and beauty brands were prominent with Diesel, Yves Saint Laurent, Armani, Wilkinson Sword, Calvin Klein (as part of a Boots ad), Chanel, Dior, Prada, Jean Paul Gautier, L'Oreal (ft Cheryl Cole), Reebok, Estee Lauder and Paco Rabane.”

kind of surprised apart from Sony there is no film studio like Disney, FOX or Paramount buying ad space for their current and upcoming films like Tron Legacy and Little Fockers.

If and when Product Placement is introduced, The X Factor will be raking it in although I doubt will have Coca Cola cups like on Idol.

Well it's up to ITV1 to give them a reason to go to bed, eat, have sex, etc, later. 9:30pm is too early to be winding down for the night, especially when you are inheriting 18m viewers, the biggest lead-in of the year!

I'd be interested to see a 5 minute breakdown for the main 5 from 21:15 to 21:45, see who went where (and to see how many went to sleep, read a book, played on the PS3, or had sex)

That kind of ignores the real world of viewers. Its very easy for guys who dont have kids to assume that people can just stay watching tv all night long.

However if you have young kids who you have allowed to stay watching tv to 9.30 on a Sunday night, in all likelihood with school & work the following day, and who are probably fairly hyper, its not very likely that you are going to sit through a new drama for 1 hour + after the X Factor finishes.

Its quite a logical idea. if you have one huge rating show that makes a lot of money, put another show that viewers of the huge rating show are attracted to and make the channel more money. People didnt stop watching TV at 9:30pm last night.

Your just making a ridiculous post to try and get away from the fact that Life Stories rating was hugely disappointing and a waste of the best lead-in of the year.

Be interesting to know what the total viewing audience was on the Sunday night in 1996 when the "final" episode of OFAH averaged 24.35m, the single biggest TV audience since BARB came into being in 1981.

Surely the total viewing peaked during that slot at something north of last night's 31.9m peak?

12m desert ITV in 20 minutes. What a waste. One thing I will say is that from about 8pm it was relatively consistent.

What people aren't realising here is that ITV's budget isn't unlimited and they don't have 100s of programmes comissioned and ready.

Yes they could show lots of major dramas etc straight after The X Factor, but why bother when they've already won Sunday night and made loads of money?

Showing Benidorm or Downton Abbey there would just leave them light in a later week. These shows can stand on their own and provide good lead ins and outs for other shows on other nights.

Alternatively, after watching TXF for 2 hours, how many people would be interested in another 1-2 hours getting into a new drama?

Disney had 2, 30 second, ads for Tron Legacy (one on Saturday and one on Sunday). FOX advertised Gulliver's Travel's on Sunday.

Warner Bros & Tesco were plugging Inception & SATC2 DVD's and FOX & Tesco had one for Knight & Day.

And as you mention Coca Cola, Nikki Finke reports that Coca Cola and Pepsi are in a bidding war to get their drinks on X Factor USA.

So no apparent scheduling changes then, oh and the opening show is longer than usual. Really doesn't bode well imo. It's going up against a stronger BBC1/2 schedule and we know the longer running time harms the average. Also the results shows never perform well, because of how late they're on. Hopefully the extra running time for the opener means they aren't splitting the girls/boys and having one big opener, which should mean future episodes are shorter?

I think they're still splitting it to girls/boys for the first couple of weeks. Last year there were 14 contestants however it's rumoured that this year there will be 16 contestants so the extra 15-minutes could be for that extra contestant for boys/girls.

I jusst got the download to work, it was pausing mid downloading, and not doing anything else.
