It's a Dutch show from John de Mol's (Endemol) new company Talpa which is a new slant on X-Factor in which only the good contestants get to audition for the mentors with a live band. The mentors will not see the contestants until they like/love their "Voice" When they push the button to say they "want" the contestant they will be able to see them for the first time but by then they have already committed themselves to the contestant. It leads to some ïnteresting new artists and one of the frontrunners in Holland is a heavily tattooed guy who would have been turned down at conventional talent shows.

They have had one or two ad-funded programmes in afternoons recently, such as Meals in Moments which was funded by Spar.

Weird thing is, it works. X-factor last year started to steer away from the joke contestants and it got much better surprisingly. They didn't omit them completely but started to not burn them down to the ground anymore. For some reason this worked so well that this idea evolved from it. It's somehow made it about the real talent.

Lol I thought David Walliams was up for this-there has been alot of speculation but he was waiting to see how the panel shaped up. The only thing i know about Hasselhoff is Knight Rider and cheesy songs. I suppose Mcintyre will still be able to do his stand up on BBC1 but ITV are rampant when it comes to its talent rosta these days. Although MM and DH wont be everyones cup of tea and it will be interesting to see what effect the lack of Cowell has -given that it will be the first real time he has not lead from the front so to speak.

It's hard to see where it could go in the UK. The BBC and C4 wouldn't get away with it. Sky1 have Must Be The Music. ITV have The X Factor and I'm assuming Five have given up on entertainment for now.


I think FOX getting the XF rights was a side effect of the Cowell/Fuller agreements in 2005. IMO, it's not worth ITV worrying about in the UK.

The US is a bit different because XF isn't established there and this is basically the same format with an extra twist. On the other hand, talent shows have a rough history in the US and there's no reason why this show won't go down in flames on night one like most of them. FOX aren't really going to sell The X Factor on its format for that very reason, it's going to be sold on Simon Cowell and a spring talent contest on NBC isn't going to have that budget. And while it's generally safe to predict that 9 out of 10 things will flop on NBC, they are enjoying some success with their Glee inspired "The Sing-Off" format just now. Of course, that's most likely picking up viewers missing their fix of Dancing With The Stars and benefitting from a lack of competition on other networks but it's doing well nonetheless. The Voice will also be airing at the same time as American Idol. Even if it's down 30%, it'll still be massive competition. Whatever the factors, it's similarity to XF means that this certainly won't be welcome news at Syco/FOX/Fremantle.

Well MM doing BGT has guaranteed one thing. I won't be watching it.

If the audience can suffer Piers Morgan for four years it'll be a walk in the park to watch Michael McIntyre.

Remarkable - Britain's Got Talent have lost Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan from the panel and yet have somehow made it even more unbearable. McIntyre could be ok as long as he doesn't go over the top, but Hasselhoff?! He was too over-eager on America's Got Talent; I have the feeling he's not going to be docile enough for a British audience. I think it'll see a dip in viewing figures - not to the point where it'll be axed but it won't sustain fantastic figures IMO.

ITV's demise post X Factor was obviously exaggerated. I have no idea where The Savoy's audience came from but people were talking about it at work today (weird replacement for water cooler show after The X Factor but there we go!) Coronation Street did brilliantly but is bound to lose momentum due it's rather ridiculous scheduling. Tuesday is just begging for something to prop it up and it'd lessen the gap between nights. Emmerdale did superbly.

BBC1 did ok - it's a shame a drama such as Accused was beaten by filler on the other side, but EastEnders did well - though it's figure looks relatively low next to Coronation Street's but 9m+ is still excellent and in the run up to Christmas it'll soon gain the upper hand.

Well yes it has for the auditions. Sorry mate i thought you misunderstood what it had said. I do think the show was in need of something fresh so it might help attract new veiwers in.

Will be interesting how Miranda does against Come Rain Come Shine because we saw how it did against IAC, I think it may break 4m. The series has been great and I think the chances of a move to BBC One is strong.

Looking at Digiguide, it appears Not Going Out is returning in January at 9.30pm with a lead in from Come Fly with Me. I would thought it would have moved to a 10.35pm slot as it rarely got above 3.5m in previous series.

I agree it will be diificult to breakthrough and most things flop on NBC but IMHO it just needs a couple of breakthrough audition performances to lure people in. That is what happened in Holland. Just a few examples of auditions from the first episode.

Going to be a tough few days for ITV1, seems like The Apprentice could have a series high tonight with poor opposition, then the Royal Variety Performance could end up sending Celebrity Grimefighters to embarrassing figures. Will be interesting to see how it affects Emmerdale episode 2 and Coronation Street though, can see Coronation Street's momentum disappearing on Thursday, but it should recover on Friday with what looks like 2 good episodes.

Edit: Also, less than 24m watching between 8pm and 10pm, down on previous weeks due to no I'm a Celebrity or Corrie's 50th.

Complete change from Monday night for ITV1, their first bad night in a while. With the incredibly weak competition in the 9pm slot I expected TOF to perhaps climb to 4m-I thought it repeated really well..but it seems BBC2 benefited the most with a great rating for the Pompeii doc and Crimewatch about 0.5m up on usual.

The Family still stuck under 1m and can't build up any momentum after clashing with IAC/Corrie.

Good solid evening for BBC1, performing well on a Tuesday as usual. The Touch of Frost repeat rated quite badly - it was only 2-3 years ago when repeats of ATOF were getting ~4.5m viewers. BBC2 really benefitted, not only did the Pompeii doc rate really well but the 8pm hour also had good numbers too.
