I'm not really wishing it off air, that comment wasn't meant to be taken too literally, but I certainly won't miss it when it comes to an end! ITV might I suspect. Personally I'm looking forward to a bit of ratings normality. And by that I don't necessarily mean ITV1 doing not so well, but just more of a level playing field.

It's just Peep Show by the way, not The Peep Show. You should have a peep yourself, it's rather good. ”

I'm now thankful that I got it right on the Ratings Game. I do know what you mean - when there's a highly critically claimed programme on one side it can bug slightly when 'soft soap' on another channel runs roughshod over it.

Though if you're hoping for ratings normality after I'm A Celebrity... finishes you might be disappointed, with Coronation Street's anniversary and Christmas coming up.

That might have held water 20 years ago when ITV thrashed everybody else for 51 weeks of the year.

Nowadays, I think the other channels let ITV have a chance for the 4 weeks of the year that ITV is now left with.

Ah, I wondered why TXF had suddenly gone back to 2 hours again.

Was there any particular reason why they needed to pick another backing track to sing along to this week? Or would a one hour show not have been good enough to keep paying ITV's bills?

Thank God - if it was, most shows on ITV would get 20m+ and the BBC would have been abolished!

Am glad I wasn't the only one who needed to look up Justin Bieber.

Don't immediately follow why these so-called massive stars should cause a surge in ratings for a show already at saturation point in its core demographic. TXF isn't the only route by which the man of the street can get his fill of Justin Bieber or the other pop legends of today - even the cheap and cheerful pop channels fill their schedules with such guff.

Perhaps the Beeb should bring back TOTP on Thursdays - thus stealing Cowell's thunder for the weekend, as 10m+ would obviously be tuning in to see all these big pop stars singing or miming to backing tapes in a studio and plugging their new album/single/tour/reunion, like they do on the TXF "results show".

Not sure why Peep Show rated so low but airing against IAC didn't help, The Mentalist seem to be dented by both IAC and NT but it was barely up from what it got last week. I think after it takes a break, Five should move it to Monday or Tuesday, CSI: Miami despite airing against IAC is doing just fine and it's got a great weekday slot.

I wonder if ITV will show Vera in January or wait until DOI is finished before airing it, the fact it was commisioned before they aired the pilot is a sign it must be good.

That episode of Peep Show was available online, officially, for a week before broadcast, much to David Mitchell's annoyance.

The IT Crowd was available online for a week before it aired but still went on to achieve its best tv ratings.

It's only the 'overnights' for one showing. I'm a big fan, but haven't seen it yet and I'm sure there are many others too.

Event TV like IAC is the least likely to be timeshifted and the opposition is bound to suffer in the 'overnights'. Good luck to ITV though, the more 'live' viewers, the more money for Downton type shows.

I don't know whether this article has been linked on here before, it's about the BBC's Live Plus 7?

Well it gives a bit more detail about The Apprentice's 3.1m figure:

Quote:
“So what does this approach tell us about how many watched The Apprentice? Well for episode one 6 million watched it live as it went out, and a further 900,000 watched it back the same day - both figures already accounted for in the overnights. But over the subsequent 7 days a further 3.1m watched the same episode either from a recording, on iPlayer or from the narrative repeat - giving a Live Plus 7 figure of over 10 million”

So 3.1m is from a recording, iPlayer or the narrative repeat. ~0.9m watched on iPlayer I think the figure was, so 2.2m watched the repeat or the recording. Not sure I like the idea of them taking repeats into account as well.

Why? repeats add to reach and not everyone gets to watch a show live. They should always be counted.

Wallace and Gromit got 7m 7 days after original transmission on New Year's Day 2008 - should those 7m be counted as new viewers?

Yes why not? many of them could be. Word of mouth after an event is a wonderful and powerful tool.

Some notes about Monday 27th December schedule:

- as Boxing Day is a Sunday, the EastEnders and Coronation Street Omnibuses move to Monday. EastEnders in on from 11:40 to 13:40 and 13:50 to 15:25 and Corrie is on from 09:25 to 12:05
- more interestingly (and a potential sign for the New Year?), Daybreak is only on from 07:00 to 08:30. CITV is on from 06:00 to 07:00 with Lorraine as normal. Can anyone remember what GMTV did on the Bank Holiday just after Christmas? Saying that, though, BBC Breakfast is only on from 06:00 to 07:30 on Bank Holiday Monday as Match of the Day highlights are on from 07:30 to 09:00

Until recently there were no live GMTV shows on Bank Holidays. It has no significance for scheduling in the New Year.

X Factor peaked with 15m last night, its highest ever Saturday peak audience.

FYI, the equivalent episode last year peaked with 13.9m, so it looks like yesterday's rating was well up vs. last year.

Wow!

I imagine a fair bit is down to the poor weather - which is slightly surprising due to Friday's poor figures, but I think we could see potentially another 17m or 18m peak tonight.

X Factor on a big snow day tonight. ITV really couldn't have got luckier with that one.

Incredible ratings. The show just seems to get bigger each year.

Great peak - same as last Saturday's show. Though Robbie might be concerned it's not showing an upward week-on-week momentum like a couple of other programmes

Still a very good peak for Strictly, albeit down on last week it appears. That's what happens when a certain Mrs. Widdecombe isn't on last... (edit - actually, same as last week - apologies, but point still stands when its rival peak went up by 0.6m)

Amazing figure for X Factor, and great for I'm a Celebrity considering the late timeslot.

So, TXF is up from 13.3m to 13.6m week on week, or from 13.4m two weeks ago. Share up from 48.7% to 49% week on week.

It's all much of a muchness really. No great advance - indeed, with many of its core demographic perhaps not venturing out last night due to the weather, you might have expected it to have seen one. And if more people stayed in, then the timeshift may be lower anyway.

Maybe its Saturday rating has hit critical mass until we reach the final week, but getting 13 million each week in this day and age is not bad at all.
