I'm a fan, but didn't watch it last Friday, because the first episode was already available on 4OnDemand for a whole week beforehand to anyone who signed up to their e-mail service.

Those demo's could expiain why the X Factor HD reach is about double of Strictly's, although we haven't had figures since the simulcast, which was often cited for ITV's higher figures.

Hollyoaks seems to have recovered a bit and 1.5 million is quite respectable for a soap aimed at under 25s. Neighbours and Home and Away seem settled around 1.5-2 million viewers, which probably proves the soaps have a hardcore fan base. Also what are the demos for the two Aussie soaps as it would be interesting to see how many of the audience are teens or people who were teens when they were huge successes in 1988-89.

These are Ofcoms age demo's for BBC 1 in 2009

4-15: 5%
16-24: 5%
25-34: 9%
35-44: 14%
45-54: 16%
55-64: 19%
65+: 33%

So SDC is pretty much in line with the channel's normal viewership. So I suppose BBC are doing their job.



And Ofcom's ITV figures are:

4-15: 6%
16-24: 6%
25-34: 9%
35-44: 14%
45-54: 17%
55-64: 18%
65+: 30%

So ITV are successful in bringing in a much younger demographic for X Factor than the channel as a whole. 43% of 16-44's compared to the normal 29%. And 55 and over 23% below the norm. When HD is included, the younger demographic will be even higher.

The audience profile for Neighbours (17:30) on Friday was:

C4-15: 133k (10% of its total audience)
A16-34: 225k (17%)
A35-44: 114k (9%)
A45-54: 189k (14%)
A55-64: 205k (16%)

I'm most interested in the Emmerdale one give its the soap which appears to skew the oldest. I wonder which age group its gained the most viewers in within the past year - has any similar data been posted before for comparison purposes?

Also, do you have breakfast shows audience profile, I'm not sure if they'd mean a lot, but would be interesting nevertheless.

I think Armstrong and Miller on Saturday nights came about as a bit of an afterthought. It's taken up 30 minutes which would otherwise have been taken up earlier in the night by In It to Win It, which vanished after three editions of its eight-part series.

With Live at the Apollo being edited to 30 minutes for its first plays on Thursday nights, and other strange decisions like A Question of Sport going out on Mondays at 10.35pm, I get the feeling the schedulers are not on top form at the moment.

And with two series of unremarkable Friday ratings for A&M, I can't understand why anyone at the BBC thought they'd stand a cat in hell's chance of doing anything other than flopping on Saturdays.

A lot of 65+ category viewers for Emmerdale and Coronation St. EastEnders appears to attract the best spread of ages.

Hollyoaks doing really well with the under 35s.

Erm, I don't have age breakdowns for the previous year. But I do have an age breakdown of Emmerdale for episodes in 1988 (22 years ago!) if that's any interest to you:

C4-15: 10% (2010: 7%)
A16-34: 20% (12%)
A35-44: 10% (11%)
A45-54: 12% (18%)
A55-64: 16% (19%)
A65+: 32% (34%)

So generally an older audience profile these days compared to 20 years ago, but I suppose that would be expected as all soap audiences have aged. For e.g. in 1988 14% of EE's audience were 65+ but the other day it was 21%.


Breakfast's audience profile on Friday was:

C4-15: 62k (4%)
A16-34: 171k (11%)
A35-44: 205k (13%)
A45-54: 286k (18%)
A55-64: 361k (23%)
A65+: 510k (32%)

Daybreak's audience profile on Friday was:

C4-15: 59k (7%)
A16-34: 145k (18%)
A35-44: 169k (21%)
A45-54: 192k (24%)
A55-64: 136k (17%)
A65+: 97k (12%)

In terms of raw numbers, Daybreak is quite close to Breakfast among viewers aged 4 to 44 (the "advertiser friendly age range"). But a big gap starts forming from 45+ especially among viewers aged 65+ in which Breakfast beats Daybreak by 5 to 1!

Wow - I find that quite surprising. Presumably the oldies consider Mr. Chiles to be all doom and gloom. I knew Breakfast would lead as it gets older, but the gap is quite big.

EDIT: Scrap that, Man U vs Liverpool just come out. That's definitely ITV1, and that must surely bring very good figures to ITV.

Leicester v Manchester City could be tempting as well. Eriksson against his old club and all that. How many matches do ITV have and how many do ESPN have?

Corrie has 32% of viewers 65+ (the same percent as Breakfast) and Emmerdale is even more with 34%.

Well if it was still on the BBC it would get great numbers but we all know what ITV have done to it
