The Big Sing was on last year again but in October in the Normal S.O.P slot.

There are 2 Big Sings recorded at the same time. There is always a big sing in October and there's always a Christmas one. Last year the Christmas Big Sing was Sunday December 13th because the Sunday before Christmas is traditionally a candlelit carol service.

Wow, can't believe they put the 75mins Top Gear Christmas special, (which would normally be capable of 6m +) against Eastenders and the premiere of Upstairs Downstairs on Boxing Day! I'd move Top Gear to Tues 28th (bank holiday) at 8pm opposite Holby City - they must have totally different demos - and Upstairs Downstairs would be established by then.

Also they put Casualty between 2 episodes of the Strictly Come Dancing final on Saturday 18th to boost it, which is fantastic after the abysmal autumn it has had against X-Factor. However the following episode then turns up at 7:10pm on Monday 27th Dec against Emmerdale and Coronation St, where it will be back down to X-Factor levels. I'd move Boxing Day Casualty to 9pm on Thurs 23rd followed by The Impressions show X-mas special at 9:50pm instead of that New Tricks repeat. (Incidentally The Impressions Show X-mas special is currently down at 10:35pm in a post news slot on the 23rd.)

Right, I've attempted to compile my own schedule seeing as the BBC's one looks like things have been thrown at a dartboard.

It's like they haven't commissioned actual programmes for two weeks, they've commissioned for a week and a bit, throwing documentaries in for 1/2 a week - hence why my version below has some gaps in it.

Anyway: http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6003/bbcschedule.png

Better of worse? You tell me. Not going to do the same with ITV, cause their schedule for the most part seems fine, although admittedly one or two things could be placed elsewhere.

Took 45 minutes to do using information from UK TV Guide and BBC Press Office. Simples. (or in the BBC Schedulers' case... not very simple)

EDIT: Just realised I've totally missed out The One Ronnie as its down at Xmas Day at 5:10pm, however I can see in my version a lot of slots which are better than that.

So 26m watching in the 8pm hour last night. Means Holby will surely be above 6m, with I'm a Celebrity again above 9m.

some of the outrage has been funny to read (Robbie is always comedy gold) but I'd just like a link to the final schedules when they are ready (until then I'm not to interested in the games ITV & BBC are playing with each other).

I'd predict though that Christmas Day figures will be lowish again this year, but I think Upstairs Downton will do very well for BBC1

Another brilliant BBC offering, like Mad Men, totally wasted on a channel with a 14% reach!!

Why don't they just shut down BBC4 and move the programmes to BBC2, and shift all the BBC1 type shows on BBC2 to BBC1?

Good figure for Hollyoaks, though it needs to remain consistant. Any idea on the E4 Warren episode?

Wow. Great rating for EE. Up from Monday which is unusual. Must be the weather taking effect.

Post DSO it would make sense to just have BBC1,2 & 3 but the BBC dont like closing anything. Goes against the mindset.

I agree to be honest - though in terms of content (you'd probably keep the brand), it'd be BBC Two which got nixed. It's currently pretty much 'out-niched' by Three and Four. There's barely a programme on it that you can't imagine anywhere else. Might as well just utilise the brand to do the clever stuff Four does.

They can't get away with closing any of their 4 main channels though - it's PR suicide and would just be 6music all over again. All the politicians who complain about the Beeb overstretching itself will suddently decide that the like that service now and its tantamount to 'cultural vandalism'.

Anyway, strong again for BBC One last night. Turn Back Time has done OK for what it is - better than many of the dramas that have faltered in that slot over the past couple of years.

Bit of a disaster for Channel 4 post-9pm. The Family's rating is atrocious, and they must have been hoping for more from Frankie Boyle. It won't get any better than that - the show was utterly abysmal.

Not really a fluke yesterday for Emmerdale, because including HD for it, you're probably tipping 8m. I'm a Celebrity dented by Holby it seems, but including HD still nearly 9m.

Very good rating though for The One Show, and EastEnders appears to have done well.

How do the News ratings compare to ITV? Very good for BBC nevertheless.

Amazingly, despite ITV running a 90 min edition of IAC, it still lost the evening to BBC1.

ITV1 (6pm - 10.30pm) - 24%
BBC1 (6pm - 10.30pm) - 24.8%

IAC doing well this year. Holby knocked by 30min clash. Emmerdale low. The One Show good.

Sorry, I can barely function trying to take in the sheer horror of the BBC1 Christmas scheduling - if it's true. SO much potential with great a great banker of shows - but slotted together in a ghastly, horrendous way. It's beyond insanity.

I disagree, a radio station is something you choose by default for the majority of your listening, whereas a niche TV channel is where you watch individual programmes.

Thanks. Solid news ratings for ITV, in particular at 6pm.
