Am intirgued to see what all the fuss is about!

I heard a special Christmas episode of Miranda was planned but cancelled when filming on the new series was delayed.

Channel4's website has different figures

Hollyoaks 1.24 (-0.32)
Kirsty 2.11 (+0.20)
Frankie 1.49 (+0.19)
Morgana 0.83 (+0.10)

Evidently Ch4 online dont count HD but do count +1

I think EE might be being overly kind about the Corrie live episode, I am pretty sure Dot will have missed many episodes.

Now that the Beeb's joke schedule confirms all our worst fears, there is no other conclusion to come to than this is an act of sabotage by an employee leaving to join a rival.

I cannot believe he has been allowed to deliberately cock-up a broadcaster's entire schedule.

I think you've fallen into the wrong thread here. We're all nuts for TV- ratings, schedules, schedulers, programmes, the lot. We're crazy for the lot of it. So yes, in this tiny pocket of the world, however insane, it DOES matter thank you.

What's he scheduled for Boxing Day? Countryfile. That's Countryfile which currently gets 8 million viewers!!!!. And Antiques Roadshow which gets 6m against the biggest programme on television.

Last Boxing Day BBC1 show Pirates Of The Carribbean 3 and it got 6m. And on Christmas Sunday Casualt was given pride of place at 8pm opposite a Midsomer repeat and posted a pathetic 4.5m in the overnights.

Ratings-wise (which is what this thread judges) BBC1's Boxing Night is a winner.

What a hideous schedule. I hope Danny Cohen gets started on next year right away.

Songs of Praise, Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow on Boxing Day... seriously, do they have to? Can't they find something... different?

Also, why on earth the Christmas Day schedule ends at 10.30pm I have no idea, thats a prime slot - almost every fantasy schedule that has been posted in the last week is better than the real one.

It's recovered OK over the past month or so, and seems to be back to rough GMTV levels at least. There was never any question of it going anywhere - it cost too much to discard after 4 months.

I do expect they'll keep on gradually changing stuff, though - possibly a mini-revamp in the spring. Bleakley and Chiles should be safe there now - which wasn't necessarily the case a few months back.

I'm one of those people who don't watch TV on Christmas Day, but PVR select programmes (this year Royle and Poirot).

Am I in the minority? What percentage of viewers watch TV on Christmas Day in the evening?

This isn't about ratings.

It's about the terribly unfestive, poor offering and the BBC not placing some of its key festive programming in the best and most appropriate reach of the license fee paying public.

Mr. Dixon's concoction is a total mess, an utter disaster, with a list of unforgivable errors that I could recite to you for the entire duration of the 4 hour X Factor finale. It damages the BBC's reputation for an outstanding Christmas lineup, at a time where the vast majority of the viewing public have become accustomed to expecting first-class schedules and a broad range of special programming.

How anyone could justify it is beyond me.

EDIT: I also think discussion of this is entirely valid in the ratings thread a) because it is momentous and huge news for TV and ratings and b) because if we weren't discussing it, it would solely be the same old sh!t on a Wednesday about Holby City, The One Show and Daybreak's continued inability to rise above 0.9m. The thread is open for any discussion and ratings are still being discussed.

Aren't those Monday's figures - if they are Tuesday they are exactly the same as Monday which is remarkable

Last Christmas (2009) and last New Year's Day (2010). This is the average total number of viewers watching accross each hour:

2009 Christmas Day
18:00-19:00 – 23.7m
19:00-20:00 – 24.3m
20:00-21:00 – 23.7m
21:00-22:00 -- 24.0m
22:00-22:30 – 23.5m

2010 New Year’s Day
18:00-19:00 -- 25.7m
19:00-20:00 -- 30.0m
20:00-21:00 -- 29.8m
21:00-22:00 -- 28.5m

On the whole Christmas Day rated pretty average in terms of total overall viewers; New Year's Day, on the other hand, rated well above average. I think the only reason BBC1 gets high viewers on Christmas Day is because everyone tunes to it by default, not because loads of people watch TV on Christmas Day.

Worked the figures out by dividing program ratings by their shares so these figures are probably only accurate to +/- 0.2m. Bare in mind the Barb pannel changed on Jan 1st and there was a 4% uplift due to that.

I'm not particularly on top of Total Viewing levels (I suspect one of the others might be able to offer you figures ), but I believe its fairly unremarkable.

From memory, viewing in the afternoon/early evening is much higher than usual (obviously people are in and tend to eat their main meal earlier), but by the main primetime hours the numbers aren't any larger than usual. Certainly, I imagine Sunday nights at the moment have more overall TV viewers. The remarkable fact about Christmas Day is how strongly the main terrestrials do in comparison to the multichannels. Viewing is done in larger groups so people revert to the big, broad, terrestrial offerings.

EDIT: I told you someone would find figures. Seems to confirm what I said though, and makes you wonder why all the business about Xmas Day schedules when overall theres about 5m fewer viewers than current Sunday nights. Tradition, I suppose.

They are Tuesday's figures. Yes indeedy.

I guess +1 boosted figures are more attractive to advertiser (still iffy imo)

I think its because of the fillers at 9pm (hell, even moving Live at the Apollo from 10:35pm to 9pm would be better), the same old Christmas Day line-up and the normal Sunday programme on Boxing Day.

OK, it'll thrash ITV, but I don't think that's the point here. ITV's schedule in a table upcoming...

In terms ot total viewing there is not much difference for Christmas Day but that is because multichannel and most of the terrestrials fall apart. BBC1 is the only channel that posts sepcial figures, sure its not X Factor numbers like 16m, but with X Factor you get 2 hours tops of huge ratings, on Christmas Day your going to see 7m+ in the afternoon and most likely 8m+, sometimes going over 10m from 5pm until 10:30pm. Its the only day of the year when regular programming can achieve it.
