just updated Digiguide, that Primeval ep on the 31st is a repeat. So hopefully the next series WILL start very soon after that.

I suspect the new series will start the following day on NYD. Is the repeat the last episode of series 3?

Why are they repeating just the one episode? Seems a bit bizarre and could do more harm than good.

Great night for BBC1 last night. Huge audience for TOS, only ~2m behind Emmerdale last night when on Monday it was ~3.5m. EE did well to maintain Mondays audience too-very stable and nice to see they'll be mentioning Corrie next Thursday. Holby held up extremely well against IAC-not dented at all. Infact all the terrestrials held up well in the 8pm slot, where I suspect IAC was dented, because 8.5m is the lowest this series (ex. CIN). Seems stupid to start it at 8.30pm really when there's no strong programming at 8pm.

Another strong rating for Emmerdale and I would guess tonight will see a huge ratings win for ITV1 with another block of bankers from 7-10pm. IAC/Apprentice/GD/football is an interesting battle though. And interesting to see ITV advertise Corrie as 2 seperate episodes, even though it's on for an hour.

Good night for CH5-everything seemed to be up on past weeks. Complete flop for CH4 at 9pm though-0.6m for The Family is awful!

For those who thought Miranda would have been perfect for Christmas Day (including me) ... Miranda gets a repeat on BBC2, Christmas Day at 22:45, Which really, is the slot it would have got if it was on BBC1! and with nothing huge on BBC1 I would not be surprised if this got really good ratings!

The snow is terrible where I live. Put up the Christmas tree this afternoon. No live telly for me tonight, will be watching It's A Wonderful Life on DVD So we won't figure in the ratings.

I guess it'll serve as a reminder of what happened at the end of the last series and I can't see it doing any harm as I'm sure the new series will be advertised heavily with the correct date and time. Personally I'd have stripped the whole of the last series across 10 afternoons over Christmas fortnight (Monday-Friday of both weeks). It's not like they've got anything better to show, and it would remind the audience of the last series (especially with all the cast changes) and could have got them some decent numbers.

STV showing Poirot on Christmas Day but opting out of the two Marples.

Would the BBC be able to get an exemption to start MOTD after 2230 on New Years Day?

Better of worse? You tell me.”

It isn't difficult is it - they've somehow managed to create a schedule which hides their flagship content rather than sells it.

Thanks for those. Even switching Rock and Chips to Boxing Day and having Upstairs Downstairs run Mon-Wed instead would be a significant improvement.

it does not say which episode it is, but I would hazard a guess it will be last series finale, it ended on a cliff hanger, of differnt memebers of the team being split in differnt time zones. Its been a while since its been on TV, so I dont think its a bad idea to repeat it.

As for repeating the whole series, they could have done, but thats their decesion.

They do from time to time alter the time a bit. The Remembrance Service, Last Night of the Proms, Eurovision Song Contest etc.

I think if special occasions dictate they are allowed.

Incidentally, is there actually footie on New Year's Day this year....I'm not sure!?

Thanks guys. Makes a lot more sense if it was a cliffhanger ending to the last series.

Yes, for the first time on New Year's Day for three years, they don't have fixtures if New Year's Day is a Thursday or Friday as it's too close to the FA Cup third round. But this year there are four full programmes, Boxing Day, Tuesday 28th, New Year's Day, and a set across the 3rd, 4th and 5th January.

The last time New Year's Day was on a Saturday, MOTD was at 11.30. In fact umpteen Christmas MOTDs is quite a new thing, it wasn't until 1999, in fact, that there was one on Boxing Day - the previous year there wasn't, even though it was a Saturday, they just showed the goals from Boxing Day on the programme on Monday 28th, which was quite common. Although in those days they were also allowed to show the goals on Final Score on Boxing Day. And before the Premier League, you'd only get MOTD if Boxing Day was a Saturday, never any other day of the week - Alan Hansen said he remembered Liverpool playing Man U on Boxing Day in 1979 and there not being a TV camera in the stadium.

Dan, there are several things a television can do. Televisions, however, cannot beep out the words of programmes just because a user on an internet forum dislikes the programme in question.

On Betfair in the last 4 hours, England have gone from 3/1 to evens favourites to win the 2018 World Cup bid.

BBC2 will show the result from 2.45pm to 3.45pm, with the decision expected around 3pm.

Sky Sports News, in their usual understated way, will begin coverage from Zurich at 6am

I'm guessing Ipswich v Arsenal will be the first leg shown - we've only got a small chance at Portman Road as it is and absolutely no chance at the Emirates. Birmingham v West Ham may be a closer run thing for the second leg.

Good night for ITV on a Tuesday - that makes a change! You've Been Framed did well in the 8pm slot and boosts the argument that entertainment could work better there than documentaries, though it did have an I'm A Celebrity... lead out. EastEnders and Holby City did well; BBC1 has a very settled night on Tuesday's.

Remember odds are based on people betting, not an actual increased chance of winning - hence when it comes to anything football related England always have better odds than they should.

That said the Murdoch press have gone to town this week on making sure it's the BBC's fault if the bid is lost (the Sunday Times expose conveniently forgotten!), even though Russia and Spain/Portugal had been seen to have the edge beforehand anyway.

Personally I think it'll be the arrogance around the bid team which loses it - so many comments in the press in the last few days about how England deserve it and how FIFA should be begging the country to host - and whilst there is no doubt England could host the tournament tomorrow if needs be, that's not the way to go about winning such a bid. They just haven't learnt from the Olympic team that you need to bid based on the present and future, not on the past, even if five years later a Tory government comes along and ruins that future!
