Yep there was a buzz about EE from xmas right through until February. I'm not picking up the same sense of excitement from Corrie but I think EE has a bigger casual audience and skews younger so that may be why. I expect there's a lot of buzz in nursing homes.
They're probably hiring big screens for most of them. 
Of course the real test will be whether or not DS crashes. Always a sign something has hit the spot with DS posters.
EE managed to crash DS and Walford Web BEFORE its live episode lol. Both were slow/down for hours, even MSN and Facebook went slow, while all the trending topics on Twitter were about EE that's when people were able to get on the site. So several sites buckled under the pressure of EE's live ep. We should see something similar happen here I'd expect.

I've heard the same thing for some corrie fans in the soap thread too.
I think people are more excited in the tram crash then the LIVE episode.
For EastEnders is was a big buzz becuase they had never done one before and got people excited i said this Long before i heard that corrie had another LIVE episode
But EastEnders done the LIve thing for the 25th and i don't want them todo it again as id rather see them try something new
I don't see why anyone would expect Corrie to be doing any better than it is now just because it's the 50th anniversary. That was never going to mean millions of viewers would come flooding back because it's apparently "the biggest television event since the 80s".
I expect a natural uplift next week out of pure curiosity but nothing off the scale. I'm not really anticipating it beating EastEnders' live rating even though I would quite like it to do well. But we will see.

Actually, I quite like it on the whole.
I think the evening soap schedules are better than at present - it's consistent and easy to remember. The issue would be Tuesdays and whether ITV would pitt Corrie straight up against Holby. I guess it would dent that episode quite severely, but surely the Beeb would have to shift it eventually. I'm not sure they could ride it out like they did the Tues ED/EE clash.
In terms of daytime - I don't mind the switch of the News to 5pm. It might help it somewhat to get in there an hour earlier than the BBC. But the 6pm hour could be difficult - and if they got it wrong, it could be a disaster. Chat shows are difficult. Paul O'Grady does OK, but just look at the problems C4 had with the 5 O'Clock Show or the poor ratings of Alan Titchmarsh on ITV. If it went wrong, they could easily wind up sub-2m with knock-on effects for primetime.

I saw some Corrie 50th cross sitch a few weeks back, which I think speaks volumes about who watches Corrie.
That said Doctor Who is endlessly cool, yet a certain section of its fanbase are big knitters.

It's an abnormal situation. How many other UK soaps have reached 50 years on air? None. Maybe it's a bit much to expect out of the ordinary figures now but next week we should be seeing ratings far above the norm as old fans flock back for the show's anniversary. EE vs Corrie, Corrie 50 vs EE 25, should become irrelevant next week, we should be seeing something quite special. People are just underestimating so they can big it up when it gets 17/18m. BGT had a peak of 19.5m only a couple of years ago.

Here's how the repeats of last Monday's 7.30pm episode of Corrie rated on ITV2:
Tue 29th Nov 01:05: 85k , +1: 43k
Tue 29th Nov 06:00: 85k , +1: 28k
Tue 29th Nov 12:00: 148k , +1: 53k
Total = 442k
The Saturday ITV2 omnibuses usually get about 150k (+1: 30k) & 250k (+1: 100k).
Total = ~530k
The Sunday ITV1 omnibus usually gets about 0.7/0.8m.
So the overall total from the repeats is about 1.5-2.0m.
EastEnders' repeat reach is usually about 2.5-3.0m (1.5m omnibus + 1m BBC3). And also there's BBC iPlayer which gets over double the hits that ITV Player gets. So overall, EE's repeats get nearly double the audience Corrie's repeats get.
Corrie's just 0.1m ahead of EE in the first-showing averages, so there's no doubt that with repeats factored in, 'Enders would have a bigger total reach than Corrie.

Not at all. I genuinely, genuinely can't see that happening. I just don't think the buzz is there. You've pretty much said yourself that the buzz is nowhere near as high as it was for EastEnders.
The BGT example is different - that and The X Factor seem to have overtaken the soaps now in generating mass attention and hype and that series in particular had a unique set of circumstances which meant so many people were bound to tune in for the final. Indeed I fully expect The X Factor's final to easily exceed whatever Corrie manages next week.

I'm not seeing a BGT / XF uplift to be quite honest. What AgentF said seems right.

EastEnders had the Buzz of the Storyline and the fact it had it's first ever LIVE episode but i know Corrie will rate higher
It seems to have quite alot of things go it's way
.Promotion Throught Bigger shows Like X Factor
.A hell of alot of press attention (more then that of Enders 25th)
.The sun,Star and Mirror have featured corrie's 50th of the front cover the last few weeks,so has all the TV guides
aswell as promotional products such as Soap,Tea Bags
and then there's the Loose women/This morning promotion the last few weeks
Anything under 17.2m and i will be very,very surprised

I don't think anyone knows for sure and it's just the media building up the hype
I think for Corrie it depends what the reaction is after the crash itself hits on Monday.
They'll clearly promote it to death over XF this weekend and I think they'll get 13-14m on Monday. At that point, people might consider it 'event over' for the week and it fades back down. Or, it could become a real national conversation and build up to something even huger for the Live on Thursday.
Frankly, I've no idea which it will be - but it should be fun to find out.

The whole 'EastEnders is doing so much better than Coronation Street' thing gets really tedious... it'll be even more tedious next week when Corrie's ratings will obviously be due "to the bad weather, so people had nothing better to do" and not because it's 50 and may have had a good set of episodes

So this thread has an 'ITV fan club' but not a BBC one? That's debatable to say the least.
Anyway, back to yesterday and for all the terrific ratings in the evening the one that stands out is Breakfast v Daybreak. I guess I'm not that surprised that Breakfast increased it's lead at all but the fact that Daybreak couldn't add even 0.1m to it's usual amount stands out.
The Apprentice and I'm A Celebrity... hurt each other but both recorded good ratings. I bet ITV wishes they could move Coronation Street back to Wednesday's full time but considering the lack of opposition and the weather I'm surprised it didn't top 10m in the overnights though it is a strong rating. BBC1 have little to support it between 7.30 and 9; they really need to find an anchor show for that period on a Wednesday.

I'll disagree on the vocal/smug bit but agree with the rest. Two programmes are doing well, does it really matter which is higher in the great scheme of things? To the levels that we go to on here anyway.

How many on here predicted EE's huge rating? So it's not unprecedented for unforseen ratings. I think there may be a shock rating next week. Not sure it'll go as high as the BGT figure I think 17m is more in the region. There's a huge amount of curiosity with live episodes.

I did!
I said Around this time last year that EastEnders:LIVE could top 15 million and beat it's xmas day 2007 rating but i was told by George S and a few others that i was stupid to think EastEnders LIVE would out rate a massive xmas day storyline on a normal Friday
