Amazed by how well Channel 5 held up last night, managing 1.2 for a documentary repeat opposite the biggest rating show on TV. Not bad.

C4 kind of collapsed after their big movie premiere - continuing the theme we have witnessed time and time again on weekdays recently where they perform much better early evening than they do in prime.

Very good for BBC Two's war doc in the 9pm hour. And Dad's Army repeated well as ever.

The Kerry Katona series seems to have debuted quite well. They might have themselves a Katie Price replacement after all there.

650k (3.1%) for the Ashes highlights last night at 10pm on ITV4

Sky Sports 1's live coverage of day four from 11.30pm to 1 am got 427,000 (8.3%)

No data for ITV2 HD again this week and ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD aren't listed, even though they both had a full seven day schedule.

Wonder if ITV are having a problem with BARB as up to now ITV2 HD's figures have been a joke. Their highest rating to date is 44K, which is unbelievable with an 8m+ potential audience.

Very good night for BBC1 until 9pm, slightly surprised Garrow's Law didn't gain more viewers though considering the poorer Abba opposition. Still good ratings for itself against tough competition in the past few weeks.

BBC2 seemed to benefit the most from the lack of I'm a Celebrity at 9pm with whatever Operation Mincemeat is. Unspectacular figure for Abba on ITV, but enough to win the slot. X Factor appears consistent, and I'd expect a rise of some sort for the final, not sure how much though. 20m peak possible?

Very good rating for Fred Claus while the C5 films performed well.

Not many comments on the ratings from Sunday, I'm guessing some are *cough* preparing for the inevitable long winded debate once Corrie's overnights come out....

Glad Operation Mincemeat did well, a really interesting WW2 documentary.


I have enjoyed the lack of tedious posts about how well X Factor rated despite it getting nearly the same rating every week. No doubt this thread will get worse, a lot worse, with Corrie and X Factor this week before it gets better.

Meanwhile the ratings for Channel Nine in Australia have sunk from 877,000 last Sunday, to just 655,000 yesterday. Ouch- I wonder why.

Yes it was very interesting. That plus Ian Hislop's documentary earlier in the week have got to be 2 of the better programmes last week on tv.

Before we get onto the Top 20 myself, I notice ITV1 including HD beat BBC1 in the All Day Shares, 20.2% compared with 20.1% - a very minor victory but a victory nevertheless. The gap however is less than what I think is the same week last year - 20.9% versus 19.9%. I suspect though ITV will win last week and this week in the BARB officials.

Strictly Come Dancing records another series high, only 110,000 behind Coronation Street. I suspect it will overtake it in next week's officials, only for Coronation Street to retake the lead the week after.

But will Coronation Street then keep the lead over Strictly? That is the question...

based on TV3s numbers you could multiply the ITV average figure by 1.51, but that would probably overstate things due to the additional Mary Byrne factor in Ireland.

It's gotten a lot of stick this series but that is a much healthier looking rating for the Xtra Factor.

Irish wise it is great to see TV3 competing so well with RTE, albeit by showing an ITV programme.

RTE are in dire need of strong competition and it's nice to see that in the last couple of years TV3 have made serious inroads, although it's programming is not exactly what you would call award winning or high in quality.

TV are going after the 15-44 market and are making more local programming allbeit mainly formats (TMO and The Apprentice are Irish made):

On that Corrie ad....it is utterly inexplicable that they have not aired it on TV. Yet they are still showing the now very tired and vastly inferior 'Street where you live' promo that has been on dozens of times for weeks.

Whoever is behind this has made one massive mistake.

They DID show some of the on line promo during This Morning today and it visibly stunned even the presenters. Holly was going 'oh my God, its like a movie'.

That would have been the reaction amongst hundreds of thousands of non Corrie viewers had this been on TV.

Yes it should not have been overdone but it absolutely should have aired last weekend when there was the biggest audience of the week tuning in.

If the ratings are not exceptional then there is a very obvious and quite baffling explanation.

Presumably, at approaching 2minutes, it's too long to show during such an otherwise profitable ad break in TXF?

Fred Claus rated well yesterday, Christmas-themed movies always do well in that slot this time of the year. Anyone know what channel is showing Miracle on 34th Street this year? MG's ratings report mentioned that it always gets 4m or so whenever it's shown. Would be a good movie for C4 or C5 to show.

Anyway, as for last night solid for The X Factor, back up after its dip last week and well up from the same episode last year. My rough estimate for TXF final next Sunday is a 17m average and 20m peak which would be about 10% up on last year on average. The ABBA show rated about a million worse than I expected but I think it proves that not any old show post-TXF will get 7m+ audiences which were being predicted for it (some predictions as high as 9-10m!). I've said it before that I think TXF boosts programmes around it by about +15-25% more than what they'd usually get so I remain unconvinced that Take Me Out will get 8m+ next week. We'll see...

Excellent once again for SCD, it looks like the final could well beat BGT as its final probably needs about 12.8m in the overnights to do that which looks very much possible after the last 2 episodes have had almost 12m. I'm a bit surprised that Garrow's Law didn't get over the 5m mark considering the relatively weak competition, probably the easiest competition it's ever faced. Maybe it's just one of those shows which has a loyal fanbase of 4.5m-ish but not many casual viewers; it deserves to come back though, and well done on the BBC on bringing it back in the first place because I was someone who said last year it shouldn't return based on its season 1 ratings but with officials of 5m+ this series I've certainly been proved wrong!


They probably could've cut it down to 1 minute, with a 1-minute trailer with the bit with the 1st song in that online trailer and another 1-minute trailer with that 2nd song. Weird that they went to the effort to make such a good trailer but only show it online!

They appear to be showing some of it on the news as they have just previewed scenes at the start of the ITV 6.30 broadcast.

It is so good that surely someone at ITV recognises a gripping promo when they see one and could appreciate how important it was getting that on air.

After all if the news is showing you there is a tram crash and some of who are in peril it is hardly for spoiler reasons.

And if nobody at ITV really has grasped how virtually everyone seeing the on line promo has gone into BAFTA mode euphoria about it then they are way too out of touch to run a popular TV channel.
