I think its a very good acquisition, too. And they could really do with getting behind this first run.
This sort of buying-in is essential for Five, I think. They need those big rating shows to hang their hat on - and though they'll have to take their fair share of failures with it, buying from the US offers them their best opportunity to secure those tentpole shows. It gives them a way to try and punch past the 1-1.5m cap that the light factual and alternatie movies that form the basis of the schedule seem to operate within.

I don't think it's going to be pushing towards 6m anytime soon, but it does appear that Matt Baker has done the shows numbers some good. Considering the hysterical media reaction to Chiles and Bleakely leaving, it has had absolutely
zero negative impact on the numbers. Arguably, it's had a positive one...
