I think Derek was referring to the US ratings. It's done really well for FX over here as well, but won't be the highest ever basic cable rating.

Good news if it's finishing on FX this Friday. I guess it means C5 might be able to start showing it in January.

Jan would be good, I dont fell the show has made its presence felt yet in the UK, so Five still have the change to take that intative.

A few FX shows on Five, NCIS being an example. I do wonder if the free to air rights would still be avabile if NewsCorp was to buy Sky, FX would basically becoming a Sky channel then like Sky Living, and start to keep the free to air rights, but not use them.

I always wanted Five to pick up Dexter.

The Walking Dead is an odd but good pick for Five and I think they will market it well considering it has become a huge hit in the US. True Blood has done well in the US but not so well on Channel 4 and FX and the worry is that WD may suffer a similar fate. It's only six episodes so maybe Five could strip in across a week from Sunday-Friday.

Miranda took a knock against Corrie which is no surprise, I imagine iPlayer and the repeat will higher than usual.

Coronation Street did well, better than I expected but I underetsimated severely against everyone else. I hope it holds up. Emmerdale, the first episode of Coronation Street and EastEnders did very well considering. Miranda only lost 1m on last week; it could've lost a lot more.

Excellent pair of ratings there, which nobody has commented on. The One Show seems to be consistently 5m+ since Manford quit. With Matt Baker on board, I can see it pushing on towards 6m now.

How come Inside Out was so much higher than normal? Isn't this usually about 3m or less? A 50%+ increase in ratings is pretty amazing, particularly against the first episode of Big Week Corrie.

Saw more of 'Corrie Does Casualty' tonight. Terribly hammy again I thought. Just doesn't "feel" like Corrie to me.

In the US it had the highest ever adults 18-49 rating for a basic cable drama series for the finale (4 million - a 3.0 A18-49 rating). The first series was also the most watched drama series in basic cable history among adults 18-49 with a first series average of 3.5m.

Inside Out usually gets a 3.5-4.0m rating and shares of 15%-17%. Last night's episode got 17% (as usual) but due to the high number of viewers watching TV last night (almost 26m compared to 23-24m in the same slot a month ago), its rating was boosted to 4.5m.

NBC's acapella singing contest "The Sing-Off" - featuring Nicole Scherzinger as a judge - was up 22% from its first season premiere. The second season started on Monday night with a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49. That trounced FOX's attempt at a country music awards show (The American Country Awards had a 1.5 rating) and ABC's flop Skating With The Stars (a pitiful 0.8). CBS won the night with How I Met Your Mother (3.6), Rules of Engagement (3.1), Two and a Half Men (4.2), Mike & Molly (3.4) and Hawaii Five-O (2.8).

On The CW, Gossip Girl & 90210 hit season highs in viewers and matched highs in adults 18-49 while 90210 matched season highs in W18-34 and W18-49.

The Walking Dead is the mainstream hit that AMC were looking for, Mad Men and Breaking Bad are critically acclaimed and do well but Walking Dead was more appealing to both audiences and advertisers.

I've not heard people talking about it as much tonight and the Episode thread on here is quite a bit smaller then last night and it's not trending on twitter now like it was at this time yesterday but i know that still means very little.

I think a dip on Wednesday before the big one on Thursday.
EastEnders and Emmerdale(7:00pm ep) should also do well tonight and i expect Holby will be dented quite a bit

I think its a very good acquisition, too. And they could really do with getting behind this first run.

This sort of buying-in is essential for Five, I think. They need those big rating shows to hang their hat on - and though they'll have to take their fair share of failures with it, buying from the US offers them their best opportunity to secure those tentpole shows. It gives them a way to try and punch past the 1-1.5m cap that the light factual and alternatie movies that form the basis of the schedule seem to operate within.


I don't think it's going to be pushing towards 6m anytime soon, but it does appear that Matt Baker has done the shows numbers some good. Considering the hysterical media reaction to Chiles and Bleakely leaving, it has had absolutely zero negative impact on the numbers. Arguably, it's had a positive one...

a few 6m would be nice, even more so if they come the same nigh Emmerdale has low ratings (below 7m, but still more than 6m) , will teach ITV to think they can poach from the One Show, and get both a new Breakfast show, and put a dent in The One Show.

I dont think TOS capitalises on Baker's appearances because they never advertise when he's on. He did yesterday and today but wont be on the rest of the week. They need to at least confirm who has the job and advertise properly.

I've been looking back through a few files with overnights from November 2008. The One Show is probably a little down overall from then, more in terms of share than overall numbers, actually. It seemed to be pulling a regular-ish 22-25%.

To be fair though, that decline happened under Chiles and Bleakely, and I think has a lot to do with Emmerdale. Almost all ED episodes were coming in sub-7m back in that month. This was during the period people were making predictions about it being overtaken. It's never come to that - it was never going to - but TOS has still been a big ratings plus for the BBC over the past few years. And its as strong now as its been in a while.

Don't forget Inside Out is English BBC1 regions only, I don't know if that figure includes the opt-outs in the national regions (strictly speaking it shouldn't). But then BARB groups all the 6.30 local news programmes under London News !

Relatively speaking, True Blood did very well on FX compared to C4.

It regularly got 0.5m+ on its first showing, not taking into account several repeat showings during the week and Anytime.

On C4 it's hovered around 700,000 I believe. Very poor, considering the quality of the show and reach of the channel.

Season three comes to FX in it's 'top slot', Fridays at ten on Jan 14. wonder if C4 will continue?

Thanks Mike! Coronation Street's rating is about 11.7m including HD, so down on Monday's 2nd episode, but still a very good rating, which will timeshift to near 13m.

EastEnders up on Monday unsurprisingly while Emmerdale's second episode looks like it broke 8m.

One of the lowest Holby City overnight ratings I think I remember seeing in a long time.

Slightly uninspiring from the Coronation Street special, was expecting a tad higher, but I guess for a relatively cheap show it's a good rating.

I hope ITV see what Emmers can do against Holby and considers shifting the Weds to Tues

and then move the Thurs Corrie to 7pm on Weds

kinda unfair on Holby fans, but I don't watch (so self involved me)

I suspect the 15-minute breakdowns show that Holby performed solidly against Emmerdale only to dive low when Coronation Street came on. Having Emmerdale on at 8pm with some flop on at 8:30pm would only hurt Emmerdale in my view.

Good for Holby to retain 67% of its normal audience against that onslaught; a decent proportion of the other 33% will have taped it.

The drop for Coro was in line with my expectations, but I did wonder if the extensive press coverage yesterday would have drawn new viewers in. Seemingly not.
