Good rating for Corrie they've had huge stunts all week(apparently - don't watch it ) for it's 50th, it was even mentioned on BBC1 10 O clock news last night, which I thought was a nice touch. I'm amazed EE Live seems to have got about 2m more viewers, incredible really! Only XFactor can beat it now. We thought the World Cup would top it, or BGT or Corrie Live, but it's hanging in there stubbornly. Will definitely be beaten by TXF final though, no question!

Emmerdale is doing brilliantly now when it goes up against EE, it doesn't seem to be affected one bit.

The Corrie storyline is much better designed for a continued viewer boost than EE was, thats for sure. As someone who started watching on Monday, I'm sure I'll drift off at some point over the next week - but I might just watch again tonight to see off the whole 'night' of the disaster.

Just to underline how strong this figure is (assuming the officials would come in at ~15m+, incl. HD):

- Most watched episode of Corrie for almost seven years
- Only two single editions of scripted shows have pulled higher ratings in that time (Wallace & Gromit and EE Live)

I said in February that EE had just posted the sort of figure I didn't think was possible for scripted programming anymore. And Corrie has come much closer to matching that level than I think anyone would have anticipated them. Massive kudos to both soaps for proving they're far from a spent force in TV land.

Very true, but i think it's more entrenched into people that there's a regular accessable 10pm EE repeat available.

So lovely to hear somebody being positive about both the shows rather than all the animosity and competition there has been between fans. As you say stunning achievement by both, esp in these multichannel days!

Having an older demo, Corrie struggles with HD ratings. Normally around the 5% mark. I suppose if more casual abc1s tuned in, it could get more last night.

I always thought this was the opposite, im sure it was regulary getting 400-500k on HD, Which considering the BBC HD channel has programmes which sometimes struggle to hit 50,000 seems pretty decent. I guess it will be more comparable when EE does HD on the 25th

The fact EE is in a mess at the moment probably hasn't helped EE keep its audience. The BBC must be starting to consider their options regarding Kirkwood.

True. It seems EE does pull in its usual 9-10million but as soon as something semi-decent comes along its no longer priority viewing.

Before Kirkwood came in though, in the Emmerdale clashes 9 times out of 10, EE would come out on top and Emmerdale would be hit but not anymore. (I do think Kirkwood is doing better storyline wise than most people say he is)

Are you serious? A couple of Emmerdale clashes don't signify a crisis. Turn the tables - start Emmerdale half way into EastEnders - then what do you think would happen?

The clashes mean little in the long run, but fan criticism recently may be of concern

Agreed. A few months ago the same stuff was being said about Corrie. When Eastenders goes back up at Christmas when they have their big storylines on, they'll be calling Kirkwood a genius:yawn:.

No, the only reason EE gets that figure is because of ITV's disregard for the soap viewers. As far as I am aware, EE has never been scheduled against Emmerdale or CS.

And lets not forget how low CS has been occasionally this year, around 5m at one point in the overnights...was it against Children in Need...?

It still struggles with its potential. Monday's tram crash only got a 4% HD share, which is comparable with Strictly on BBC HD.

With ITV/BBC HD in more than 20% of UK homes, the HD ratings are way below what they could be.

Fans are up in arms at the direction the show has taken. Not just DS but the Points of View site has been flooded and the fanatics on Walford Web forums have turned. If the BBC are seeing this they will be questioning it.
