Is Iplayer working on Sony Bravia today?

Could someone confirm if Iplayer is working on Sony Bravia TV's today.

I have just changed our tv over from a wireless connection to a wired setup, but Iplayer isn't working, however all the other services are working, including Demand 5.

Don't know if this is related, but I've just hooked up my sony tv to the internet, and everything is working except for the i-player.

The telly is saying I need to download a software update, but it is automatically programmed to receive these. Problem at their end?

I suspect you have just connected your TV for the first time?

If this is true, you need your TV to download the update itself. Make sure it's in standby overnight (at 3am), and all should be well in the morning.

Cheers I'll give it a go tonight.

I-player still not working unfortunately, it's still demanding I download a software update. We've had the telly for a couple of months, I was under the impression updates downloaded through the aerial.

Is there any way to check for updates manually?

The downloads are done over the air. I'm assuming you are in the UK?

Yep I'm in the Uk, It's very strange, all the other stuff is working fine, Youtube, Demand5 etc, just no I-player. Which of course, is what I wanted the most.

No reason why it's not getting the update. You can manually update the firmware by following the instructions here

But I would suggest you try to refresh the network services first!

Thanks for the link, though I hope I don't have to resort to that, it looks complicated!

Couple of last questions, how do you refresh the network services, and can you recommend a decent USB dongle for the telly for wireless connection? Sony do them, but they seem expensive.

I'm a bit of a newcomer to this type of stuff, as you can probably tell.

You can refresh the internet content by doing the following:-

1 Press 'Internet Video'
2 Scroll horizontally until you see 'Settings'
2 Scroll vertically until you see 'Network'
4 Scroll down to 'Refresh Internet Content'

With regards the wireless dongle, you can only use the one made by Sony, which I have just disconnected and replaced with a powerline bridge!

I disconnected it, because my wireless wasn't strong enough in the living room and the picture on Iplayer kept stopping.

So I have now disconnected the wireless dongle and fitted a Netgear XAVB2001 powerline bridge (£74 from Ebuyer).

http://www.netgear.com/products/home.../XAVB2001.aspx

I plugged 1 unit into the mains next to my router and the other next to the Bravia and it worked 1st time. Simple bit of kit that essentially turns any power socket into a LAN port.

I have just watched some iplayer material on the higher definition option without any break ups - this was impossible with the wireless set up I used before.

Also, if you do use the wireless dongle, it's another (slight) delay when starting up your TV, while the Bravia 'detects' all the devices!

If you do want a dongle, my redundant one is only 4 weeks old?

Nice one, I-player now working, very impressive stuff.

Just got a wireless router, and as the tv is right next to the phone socket, I'm going to carry on using the wired LAN connection for that, but get a dongle for the PC, there seems to be more of a choice, and their certainly cheaper.

Pete, thanks very much for the help, the sony is a cracking tv, when they start broadcasting in freeview-hd round here in August, I'll have everything sorted.

Great to hear it's working. Just need 4OD to complete the line up (I'm not bothered about ITV Player)!

The HD picture quality is very good. We are due to switch over to Digital next year, but we had a surprise when we installed our TV, as it picked up the HD signal from the Litchfield transmitter near Birmingham!
