Eating Raw chicken

I was in Japan recently and some friends ordered this:

This is raw chicken with chicken liver / heart. I thought raw chicken was dangerous so why do the Japanese consume it ?

I would suggest the Japenese eat several foods that are dangerous one of their fish if you consume the wrong bit can kill you !

Fresh, well reared, disease-free chicken will do you no harm.
So I suppose you have to be pretty confident in your poultry supplier before you try it.

I bet its because that chicken was killed just hours ago and prepared. So no bacteria has grown on it.

Whether it's safe or not I won't be trying it. Our Oriental cousins don't half eat some strange stuff.

On the other hand they probably think the same about us. Turkey Twizzlers anyone?

That very rarely happens, you have to be very well trained and qualified to prepare it.

I wouldn't eat much/any raw meat

beef/fish/seafood etc etc.
definitely not chicken.

Neil on Coast last night, ate a raw mussel, and didn't seem too enthralled.

There was an episode on one of those food travel channels where the host was in Tokyo and they served raw frog sashimi. It looked vile to be honest, mostly because they chopped the head off and left it intact on the platter. The frog looked angry. Sort of macabre in a way...

Raw beef is beautiful, as is raw tuna and salmon.

I imagine the risk from eating well reared raw chicken is less than you think, but I'm still not sure i'd do it.

In an episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations he ate rare chicken yakitori. The chef basically had the chicken out back and killed it to order.

I think you can eat pretty much any raw meat aslong as you kill the animal and start eating it before too much bacteria forms on it. So they have probably killed the chicken cut it open, cut whatever out washed the blood off it and put it on a plate... I wouldnt eat it though

On the contrary, I doubt there's anyone more picky about food than the Japanese. Especially when it comes to freshness or quality.
